Title: The Drive, 10/7/05: 1986
Post by: RGMike on October 07, 2005, 08:02:58 AM
Well Gaz, yer not missing anything here either.  A rare visit to this year for Bob, who treats '86 kinda like Dave treats '95: No pop, no soul, just what was on Album Rock Radio at the time.

case in point, his TOTHC: Georgia Sats, "Keep Yo' Hands to Yo'self"

BOS Paul Simon, "Boy in the Bubble". Days of miracle and wonder? I wonder.

Nice to hear "Fall On Me" though.  Nothing wrong with deep R.E.M. cuts.

Opposite to be said about Genesis track.

ETA:

AAACK!!

Genesis into CH "Don't Dream It's Over"

There oughta be a law...

the inevitable "Don't Dream it's Katrina".  Even Bob succumbs to this dreaded disease.

"rumor travels faster, but it don't stay put as long as truth"

Oh that Ronnie.

Think Bob'll steal a page from the Morey playbook and give us the Blow Monkeys?

Yes.  This is one of my favorite latter day Clapton songs.  Like the horn counterpoints.

From the Color Of Money soundtrack, which also features a brilliant instrumental by Mark Knopfler that Dave should really use in his next SI set.

one of the few popular tunes of '86 vintage that I think has held up well.

Unlike "Wildest Dreams" or "Don't Dream It's Over", both of which are nothing more than elevator music to me now.

VHM David + David.  Not sure what the club consensus is, but for me this a bit of a sledgehammer & one of the few popular tunes of '86 vintage that I think has held up well.

indeed, like "the Future's So Bright..." it's a song about booming economic times that becomes relevant whenever the economy goes thru another cycle.  Not sure about money making a "succulent sound", tho' -- you can't (literally) eat money.
