Request thread is up.
-
My psychic request:
Joni Mitchell - Overture/Cotton Avenue
-
AL was having a lot of fun last nite posting '77 pop cheeze ("Undercover Angel", "Float On" etc) on FB. A welcome trend, I must say.
-
TOTHK - Don Pardo speaks ---> The Kinks "Juke Box Music"
-
too busy to post today but -- nice use of Don Pardo, as expected.
ETA: after 2 fairly LN-y choices a big BOS to "Way Down". And we went from Elvis to Elvis, heh.
-
Elvis Costello "(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes" LN at this point
(http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/e61e1c7e5863897bbca149a1ae36e0cb/1373651.jpg)
A deeper album cut from My Aim Is True would be most welcome...
-

Rita Coolidge "(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher And Higher"
ETA: I came this close to requesting Dolly Parton's version.
We seem to be venturing into cheeze territory. Pretty sure this falls into the Bustout column, but I don't think that alone can save it.
-
Jackson Browne "You Love The Thunder"

-
10cc "The Things We Do For Love"
ETA: Will AL play Alan O'Day's "Undercover Angel" to keep the pop cheeze a-rollin'?
-
SNL two wild and crazy guys ---> Don Pardo speaks ---> Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band "Cherchez La Femme"

OMFG: I nearly requested Dr Buzzard today -- perfect segue from the SNL clip. big BOS to a DM fave.

Wow: Kiss, "Dr Love".. This has been an amazing cheeze-tacular. Kudos!

Maybe a Pardo tribute?
-
And Don Pardo "ah those were the days" / "another great one" closes out the sets...
ETA: Is this AL's way of making up for not playing any pop cheeze in a recent '87 slogfest?
-
How are the folks over at GS-land taking this set?

Looks like the Rita Coolidge was our lone bustout -- everything else has appeared at least once ("Dr Love" actually got played twice before in the first AL era). Dr Buzzard and Andy Gibb date way back to Morey days. Thrilled that AL played "Way Down" again -- it was a request of mine for ages and I think she first played it shortly before she left for K-Fox. It's one of the most underrated 45s of the '70 IMHO.
-
1977... ugh. I didn't hear anything this morning that I want to hear again. I'm skipping
the replay, which is unusual for me.

Outside of the fact it's a great record?
:) ;) :D

I don't hate it, but a LOT of people do, calling it (a) a desecration of the Jackie Wilson original and (b) a blatant attempt to turn Ms. Coolidge into a Linda Ronstadt clone, commerically speaking. El Lay session-ism gone amuck, and like that. The "mellowed-out remake" became a subgenre all its own at that time (see also JT's "Handy Man").
TANC: WLNG just played the Jackie Wilson version, a masterpiece in every way. (and "the greatest 45 ever" per Dave Morey)
