as is the full court press for pop cheeze. If only the Club were as influential as Cumulus Corporate . . .

Not terribly sad that I'll be missing this one. But three cheers for the Pop Cheeze Brigade.

TOTHK - Missed the first song (Pretenders?)
ETA: Los Lobos "Shakin' Shakin' Shakes"

News clips ---> George Harrison "Devil's Radio"

Roger Waters "Radio Waves"

Oliver North ---> Julian Cope "World Shut Your Mouth"

Broadcast News ---> Icehouse "Crazy"

So far: Ok to decent songs, but not anything earth-shattering.
Icehouse, along with RGM's favorite song of all time, "Don't Dream It's Over", are what I would consider "pioneer AAA material". Not that it's necessarily a bad thing.
-
Halfway through; will AL play any pop (cheeze)?
-
Moonstruck "snap out of it!" ----> Psychedelic Furs "Heartbreak Beat"

Well, 0% pop cheeze so far, and 100% AAA or MOR rock. Standard late '80's fare. This Psychedelic Furs is a good one, but I imagine it grades out pretty low on your necessary ratings.

Indeed. 1987 is chock full-o-"songs that seemed cool at the time but here in 2014 we really don't need to hear anymore". At least, that's what 10@10 would have us believe.

The Witches Of Eastwick (another Cher flick) ---> Echo and the Bunnymen "Lips Like Sugar"
ETA: Really need a dose of pop cheeze now after the Psy Furs/Echo Bunnymen twin-spin...
-
The Witches Of Eastwick (another Cher flick) ---> Echo and the Bunnymen "Lips Like Sugar"
I like this song a lot, but like my other favorites from this set (Furs and Julian Cope) could stand to be grounded from their frequent flights for years to come.
-
U2 "Sweetest Thing" (flipside of "Where The Streets Have No Name")
-
Echo And The Bunnymen were part of the music round of trivia the other night. Theme? Military Alphabet. Didn't get that.
-
U2 "Sweetest Thing"
Yep, it was the B-side of something, but I definitely think "1998" when I hear this.

Seriously? I totally think of '98 on this one too. Had no idea it was a retread from 87.

E for Echo (like C for Charlie)
-
The Cure "Why Can't I Be You?"
ETA: A serious injection of pop cheeze needed after the past 4 songs...

Yep. The set led with Cake's "Alpha Beta Parking Lot".
Ironically, the theme came about after various complaints about previous themes being too obvious (i.e. "All Star" the day of the All Star Game).

RGMike's blood pressure is glad he skipped this set.

Egad, this might be a less necessary choice than "Don't Dream It's Over".

Spuds Mackenzie "Bud Light's party animal" ---> Beastie Boys "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)"

Beasties' Fight for Your Right BOS by default

Well, ok, but this is like playing Springsteen to placate Snipeland.

I don't get it.

No musical variety in this '87 set, no?

I don't get it.
Granted, "You Gotta Fite" probably hasn't been played as much as it seems, but just seems kind of token. Probably just me.
-
I hate to be negative on AL's wall for many reasons, the most obvious of which is that we learned from 2012-2014 that the 10@10 host is under no obligation to let listeners participate via social media, so this is my hopefully subtle protest at the staleness of today's set:
"Beasties BOS by 100,000 frequent flier miles"
-
No musical variety in this '87 set, no?
Next to none, but the Beasties counts as rap or at least rock/rap, so there's that.

How about playing something else from Licensed To Ill? I would have chosen "Girls"... :)

No, you're right. I think the "by default" part from me is just because it's the only song representing one of the many other popular genres from the time that get no play.

I like The New Style myself.

Was the Snipers' reaction similarly negative?

Was the Snipers' reaction similarly negative?
It was split - I was amongst the more disillusioned, but there were some that didn't seem to mind so much. I'll probably warm up given time... often these shows work like a good sitcom, and seem better the nth time around.
Non-snipe JF, of course, thought it was the most wonderful thing ever produced.

AL on FB says Psychedelic Furs got BOS.

missed the first four songs, and songs 7-10 were SO very FF'd that my eyes rolled out of my head.

. . . literally!

Oy. FF city, except for "Devil's Radio". I won't be catching the replay on this one.

Broadcast News ---> Icehouse "Crazy"
I've said it before, but this really sounds like movie soundtrack music.
