I'd've bet money on a '90s year. But the thread is up.

Cheap Trick, "Dream Police", a fine TOTHK. BOS1.

Not their best album but far from their worst, too. And they were at the peak of their popularity in 79. I saw 'em that year; bet a number of us did.

Blondie "Dreaming"

BOS2 Blondie, "Dreaming", tho' I feel like we heard it recently. One of my uber-faves of theirs.

Casey Kasem NBC promos ---> Madness "One Step Beyond"

We did just get Hangin' On the Telephone in our last '78 set, on June 17 (hmmm, seems like it was more recent than that).
-
NBC TV promo --> "hey you, don't watch that, watch this!" Madness, "One Step Beyond". Heh. Far from rare but always welcome. VHM.

And yet again, it was Casey Kasem doing the voice-over on that NBC clip. He was everywhere back then.

Dreaming heard June 2nd and March 14th -- both '79 sets.

The Jerk ---> Dave Edmunds "Queen Of Hearts"

Wonder if AL snuck a peak at one of my old setlists... ;)
-
The Jerk --> "Queen of Hearts", the Dave Edmunds version. VHM. It'd be nice to hear Juice Newton sometime.
-
more Jerk --> "Lonesome Loser". LRB. ("beaten by the Queen of Hearts every time" -- it's so nice when there's actual THOUGHT being put into segues.)
-
The Jerk ---> Little River Band "Lonesome Loser"

even the lonesome losers. Heh. Petty fits in well in this context. VHM.
-
Even more The Jerk ---> Gloria Gaynor "I Will Survive"

it's a Jerk thang today. Oy, Gloria Gaynor. Truly a song I never need to hear again. uber-uber-LN, but other than having played "Dreaming" in consecutive '79 sets, AL's doing well today.
-
Joe Jackson "Is She Really Going Out With Him?" continues the theme...

Is JJ an LN? Kinda -- something other than the hit from this fab LP would been nice.
-
"It's over already?" asks AL. Yup, under 40 minutes.
ETA: She could have gone over 40 if she played the LOOOOOONG version of "I Will Survive"

thank heaven for small favors. ;) I guess it played into the theme she was constructing but a less-overexposed disco nugget woulda been divine.

Thursday, July 10, 2014: Dreamin' in...1979!!
Ugh. This week's 1982 set may have been lackluster, but I found large parts of today's show
completely off-putting. When a 1976 set is shaping up to be the second-best of the week, it's
a sign of how dismal the situation is.
