Wow - I don't believe the Osmonds are bustouts, but they certainly don't appear often.

No complaints so far, but really hope we pay a visit to the R&B side of things. '71 is a strong contender for Best Year Ever in terms of pop chart diversity, imo.

nice
yet another Dan Ingram line I've, um, appropriated over the years. But I'm quoting him extensively in my novel so it all evens out.
And I note that 9 of today's 10 songs were Top 40 hits. Only "Move Over" wasn't a single. ("Bitch" was the B-side of "Brown Sugar" so it counts)

One fine Morey-trina...

It's a little surprising that we're visiting 1971 again, as the last time was mid-May.
Annalisa's '60s sets have always leaned towards pop, and today's set went even farther in
that direction. While it was good for what it was -- and that's not hard, given such a strong year --
I would be happier if I knew it would be balanced with a future 1971 that delved deeper into
"hard" and/or prog rock, although that seems unlikely. I agree with urth's comment that
1971 has a lot of pop chart diversity, and I'd go even further and state that 1971 has a lot
of musical diversity, period. There were many musical trends going at that time and much
experimentation was being done.

Given my love of pop, it's no surprise that I have few complaints with this set. We usually get a couple pop nuggets and a lot of AOR classics; this erred on the pop side, and that's OK. Given that 9 of these were Top 40 singles, I'd only call "Baby Blue" and maybe "One Fine Morning" (a Morey fave as you correctly point out) even approaching being FFs.
If only we could get a late-'80s set this pop-oriented.

I have no complaints about the pop set per se, only about the lack of balance in that most '60s
sets lean toward pop, when there were so many other effing musical trends taking place at the
time. In 1971 there's still plenty of psychedelic/acid rock, "hard" rock, the beginnings of metal,
blues rock, folk rock, country rock, prog rock, the start of jazz fusion, and the emergence of funk.
And even on the pop side (as others occasionally note) we could have more Soul/Motown/R&B.
