Title: 16 June 2014: It's 1989
Post by: urth on June 16, 2014, 12:43:14 AM
The year, she has been revealed on FB. 1989 it is. AL has come up strong in the past with years that were considered to be lame in the DM era. Hoping that's the case here.

appropriate, as we ponder the possibility of another Bay Bridge World Series. But if we start with "Everything is Broken", all bets are off.

ETA: I'm listening to a Casey K "Top 100 of 1975" on iHeart and it's tempting to stick with it, since I don't have high hopes for '89. (Seriously, if we hear the Wilburys I'm outta here)

ETA2: I'm REAL sick of Shaq's Gold Bond Foot Powder ads.

Jeebus H Christ -- The Call with one of the uber-uber-LNs of '89. Didn't we hear this one last time?

uber-LN2: Love & Rockets. I predicted several FFs on FB and this was one (and the only reason I didn't predict the Call was I coulda sworn we heard it very recently)

Certainly not a rarity, but you won't catch me griping about this one. Always a fave.

And directly into Elvis Costello's collaboration with Paul McCartney, Veronica. Also not a rarity, personally somewhat less of a fave than the XTC, but still decent.

Where'd everyone go today? Looks like just me and Mike so far.

Yeah, we have broken very little new ground today. Maybe the Mould, but I wouldn't even bet on that.

Sounds like the new PD studied the Book of Constantine.

Annnnd, here's FYC. One of the original Katrinas, although it may have been awhile since it last turned up on 10@10.

Between Something and Nothing, by The Ocean Blue. Probably our most likely bustout of the day, but wouldn't commit to that.

Very Smiths-like, but weren't they pretty much done by '89?

The World Cup game was 4-0, but it could have been 8-0 and still been far more entertaining than this crapfest. Glad to have missed it.

neither the Ocean Blue nor the Bob Mould were bustouts but they were serious rarities compared to everything else.

Oh, if only instead of these two we had gotten some Traveling Wilburys and Tears For Fears...
then it would have been ten LNs.  That would have been some kind of achievement, however
dubious.  Instead this show was just another mediocre piece of shyte.
