Could this be our first week without a theme set in over a month? A Soul Patrol would be nice. But an early-'80s set would seem likely.
ETA: and I was right: it's '81.

But we got two last week, so it averages out. ;)

Just scanned thru the requests and was amused to see some random (non-GS) foghead harshing on another for requesting Joan Jett, saying he heard it all the time on other stations. But what did he ask for? Tom Petty, The Waiting.
Ahem, sir, you seem to be sporting as dark a paintjob as Ms. Kettle.

true. But I berated one of our own for requesting "Magnificent 7", one of the most-played '81 tracks and pretty much the ONLY tune from Sandinista! we ever get. I'd lurve to hear "Washington Bullets".

and we're getting a late start -- "Fast Car" drones on. And on

Eliminating the ninnies and the twits. (Sodden thought: will Twitter someday adopt this as a theme song?) VHM.

WOS Styx. Too much Cars songs on their minds.
I agree with Mike! Not about the Cars of course, but about the execrable music Styx put out!

I know we've heard "Arc of a Diver" a lot, but I think this is about as good as synth-heavy music gets.
-

And a subtle in-yo-face to the guy who was harshing on Joan Jett.
Another BOS to JJ, VHM to Bad Mama Jama.
Loved this Winwood album when it came out. (At that time it seemed like he'd been out of sight for *eons*, in reality it was about three years.)

I think it's been quite a while for this particular tune. Sounds pretty good, even though it has pretty much nonsensical lyrics.

I think Winwood was cribbing from the Jon Anderson school of lyrical obscurity.

Yes, indeed ;)

uber-uber-LN: "Tainted Love" I could go a good 10 years without hearing this one.
ETA and it's the extended "Where Did Our Love Go" looooooong version to boot. VHM Don Pardo.

I forgot to request something from Joe Jackson's Jumpin' Jive:

ETA: I forgot how looooooong this Soft Cell medley was...
ETA2: Don Pardo agrees with me!

Speaking of Firesign Theatre, I was listening to an archived DM set from 1971 a few weeks ago that included the opening segment from I Think We're All Bozos On This Bus ("Welcome...to the future...") in which the dialogue included an audible "Oh FUCK!" that was not bleeped, even on the replay from which I recorded it.
Oh, those were the days.

not to mention the days when Firesign bits were staples of FM rock stations.

I'd bet the farm on it.
Hopefully it was somebody else's farm! Apart from Soft Cell, this wasn't half bad.

Looking at this on paper after the fact, my BOS picks would be at opposite ends of the set and smack in the middle: songs 1, 5, 6, and 10.

I think Winwood was cribbing from the Jon Anderson school of lyrical obscurity.
So, these comments made me look up lyrics, and all the sites I saw had this line "I must be deaf on the telephone." I'd never heard that, and eventually found some legit sheet music on sale, and could read in the preview files "I must be there on the telephone." Gee, I guess not everything you read on the internet is true!

AL on FB says the Ramones got BOS.

It seems like the lyric web sites all copy each other. Whenever I've stumbled upon an error,
all the sites I've checked have the same thing.
