No clue posted last nite and I didn't hear a promo this morning. I'm gonna guess late-'70s
Jeebus -- late start today.
ooo: *early* '70s. '72 leads off with Stones, "All Down the Line" BOS1
-
Sadly, I'm going to miss the live broadcast, so take notes!
-
VHM Still Bill, "Use Me"
-
Do we know if this is live or Memorex?
-
The Move, California Man
ETA: I probably should have known Cheap Trick's version was a cover, but I didn't. Thus, this is a pleasant surprise.
-
Johnny Cash for Amoco gas --> The Move "California Man" BOS2 and a serious rarity if not a bustout.
Never really struck me what a Jerry Lee Lewis hommage this is.

Also cool that these are definitely not native California men.
-
Mah-Mo-Yeah: "Go All the way" may be beloved, but it's still uber-LN at this point. "I wanna Be with You" woulda been nice.
-
More power pop with Raspberries, Go All the Way (RGMike is typing über-LN right this second)
Could Big Star be next?
ETA: Big Star or Todd with Couldn't I Just Tell You next?
-
Yup.
Big Star, The Ballad of El Goodo
Long live the Pop!
-
What's Up Doc? --> Big Star, "Ballad of El Goodo" BOS3 and another welcome rarity.

Alex Chilton is AL's '70's Dave Grohl.
-
BOS4 Lou, "Perfect Day"

Nicely played! Would love to hear Couldn't I Just Tell You next.
Not sure if California Man is a bustout--I have vague recollections of it coming up at least once before (either the first AL regime or RR with someone else steering the boat--Dave never played it so far as I know.)
-
Sanford and Son! --> Elton John, Honky Cat
-
Sanford & Son --> "Honky Cat". At least we were spared "Rocket man" ;)

indeed, AL played it once, apparently (as a TOTHK in 2011)

BOS5 Randy Newman "Leave Your Hat On" -- this is turning out quite wonderfully.
-
Not Joe Cocker (aka Randy Newman) with You Can Leave Your Hat On
-
All in the Family! --> Slade, Mama Weer All Crazee Now
Two songs in a row that were later covered in the '80's to more fanfare (at least Stateside)
-
All in the Family --> "Mama Weer All Crazee Now"! BOS6 Slade.
-
Not Joe Cocker (aka Randy Newman) with You Can Leave Your Hat On
Was that a demo? Sounded like just piano.
-
Bowie to close us out with Ziggy & the spidahs. BOS7.
This has been a rarity-packed delight.
-
David Bowie, Hang on to Yourself
Anyone else feel that Ziggy Stardust should get more consideration as the best ever rock album?
Mini-power pop set and now mini-glam rock set. 'Tis a good day, indeed.

Excellent album/band (I saw them live), but...no.

I need one more person to agree, then I can say:

You might be on to something there. Randy re-recorded a lot of his songs in 2003 for an album called The Randy Newman Songbook Vol. 1, which featured only Randy's singing and piano playing. So maybe she played that version. The Sail Away version prominently features snare drum and slide guitar (Ry Cooder!).

Yeah, I thought it sounded different too. Thought it was just bad earbuds.

TANC: listening to my radio buddy Brian Bannon on WLNG and he just played "I Wanna Be With You".

Must've been a tough ticket.

I was just lucky. This was before the days when I was 'in the business' and somehow a friend just had a ticket! Great show. Mick Taylor was awesome.
