LN-iest request (tie): Fastball "The Way" and Sister Hazel "All For You" -- if we hear both I may go postal.

just for shirts and goggles I looked at 1998 in music on wikipedia and came up with "Teardrop" by Massive Attack.

Chance it would even be considered: .05%

Great song, though

Sadly, I won't be around for this set, so take copious notes!

I was gonna pass, but I'll take one for the team.  ;)

AL actually posted a clip of Madonna's "Ray of Light" in her thread (which got, like, 6 likes) and if she actually plays it (given her dislike of Madge) I'll be impressed.

Garbage, "Special".  I'll give this one a VHM.

All one tempo so far. The biggest problem with late '90's sets.

Something About Mary (?) --> Jonathan Richman "True Love is Not Nice". BOS1.

"Flying": while not bad, I don't think it's a good idea to start off a set with a song from an artist whose sound is the same every year.
"Special": kind of an FF, but at least they didn't play the snoozy version of it (which I like, but not during 10@10).
This Jonathan Richman song is NTM.

Ah, nothing says 1998 like mid-tempo swing.

more ...Mary --> "Big time Operator" BBVD. Not a fan of the swing revival, but this is fairly inoffensive.

uber-LN BNLs, "It's All Been Done" Why yes -- it HAS.

ETA: actually, I liked this at the time; it was the old-school-sounding alternative for stations that found "One Week" too annoying.

Will & Grace promo --> Hole, "Malibu"

Hole, Malibu

Mid-tempo isn't so bad if the song is this strong.

Malibu, worth a BOS.

Malibu, worth a BOS.

Fairly close to the anniversary of Kurt's death, too

I'm not remembering hearing this before, so VHMFRA.

This compares somewhat to my Jeff Buckley request, so I like it.

Clinton speaks --> "It's Bad, You Know", RL Burnside.  Good segues today if nothing else.  But records like this one, built around endlessly-repeated samples, get quite monotonous.

This RL Burnside thing is becoming to 1998 10@10s what Beautiful People - "If 60s Were 90s" is to 1994s.

and again we do the "sndtk song from the '60s because the movie was from the '90s" thing. I'm still against this practice, much as I love the tune.  (First Edition, "Just Dropped In", from The Big Lebowski)

Pretty much an "AL's Greatest 1998 Hits" compilation.  Not really surprising.

Yeah, it's like an admission that this era of music sucks, so let's sneak in some '60's. From my point of view, it's not so much the era that sucks, but the corporate radio practice of segregating genres, which was deeply entrenched by then and seems to have some sort of magical hold on the 10@10's.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but the Barenaked Ladies sounded OK.  Maybe because the rest of the set was so ZZzzzz.

Does that mean they get BOS?

OF COURSE NOT!

Jonathan Richman gets my vote, with Hole as HM.

Ditto. At least Renee stopped it after the first time (playing David Bowie - "Sound and Vision" in 1989 due to the box set and world tour) when people complained, and even then, box sets and world tours are more music-related than movies.

I have a feeling that AL started throwing them in because she was missing them during the era when >80% of the sets were from 1985 or later.  But now that we're back to getting multiple 60s/70s sets per week, she really doesn't need to.  A good 1998 song makes better sense to end a 1998 set than a good 60s song.

Did AL ever announce what got BOS?
