Title: 9 April 2014: it's... 1977
Post by: RGMike on April 08, 2014, 08:29:01 PM
The thread is up and we already have a winner: "any song from Fleetwood Mac or the Eagles". Dude, srsly?

Also, someone requested "Year of the Cat" which we just heard a few weeks ago. *sigh*

I never really get tired of this.  It's because they sing "You can dance, you can jive."  When Swedes jive, it's pretty awesome.

Yeah, we've heard it a lot over the years, but it's one of those irresistible, earworm melodies that really deserves its acclaim. VHM.

Another VHM for Lonesome George, not confronting his landlord.

Holy crap, Three's Company as incredibly lame.  Was that Joyce DeWitt, sounding more girly than Suzanne Sommers?

barkeep, I'll order a Black Cow to wash that Thorogood taste away.

Serious sledgehammer for me with Black Cow. I bought a new turntable in 78, and Aja was the first album I dropped the needle on, with Black Cow as the leadoff track. Yeah, more smooth jazz than rock and roll, but man does it sound good. BOS.

BOS2 Townshend/Lane "My Baby Gives it Away"

Another strong BOS contender for me too.  This album was out of print for a number of years (and not that long after it came out). I remember being quite happy to find it back in print in the mid-80s.

Uber-LN2: Elvis, "Red Shoes". Only "Alison" woulda been more LN.

Gotta chime in...  I still really enjoy this song, no matter how often it's played, for 2 reasons:
  - Awesome song (IMHO)
  - Reminds me of how awesome My Aim Is True was as a debut album

it's all monotonous blooze to me.  And this set was OK but (again) seeing a thread full of great suggestions that get bypassed in favor of FFs is the downside to having AL back.  A crappy set from RR wasn't disappointing because it was business as usual.

Good analysis.  We know she has stellar taste, but the great unwashed can't handle anything too weird, man.  Thanks corporate radio bloodsucking evil overlords!

Haha, she made funny on Muddy's "five minutes' time" brag.

I'm just channelling my inner Gazoo -- I miss him here, and he's no longer on FB either.

While we're speaking of absent cohorts, it occurred to me that Dischead has been missing for going on a couple of weeks now, I think. Hopefully just a brief hiatus.

And Mike, should you (or anyone) hear anything about Joe, please let me know. I know he hasn't been around this board for quite awhile, but the last few things I saw from him on FB, he seemed pretty down on life, even for him. I'm a bit concerned, too.

I've just experienced a major, across-the-board disruption in my living situation.  While the actual
Internet "blackout" only lasted a couple of days, all my routines are discombobulated.  I hope to
resume my trenchant and scintillating posts shortly.

I had to look up trenchant:  vigorous or incisive in expression or style.
