Well, this one could be hit or miss...but most likely the latter. The last one started off as our first 2012 set...
-
Seriously? They're gonna announce this year's Outside Lands lineup and then AL will play 10 of the artists. Color me underwhelmed.

And here I thought the special set was going to be Opening Day-related.

Disappointment jink!
-
For reference, here's the previous Outside Lands set: (thanks Capn)
Friday August 9, 2013 - Outside Lands Bands
1. Let's Go - Matt & Kim
2. Day Dreams - Midi Matilda
3. Cough Syrup - Young the Giant
(Comic: Wyatt Cenac)
4. Next To You - Emeli Sandé
5. I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) - Hall & Oates
(Female comic)
6. Higher Ground - Red Hot Chili Peppers
7. Ain't Messin' Around - Gary Clark Jr.
8. Lisztomania - Phoenix
(Comic: Craig Robinson)
9. Closer - Nine Inch Nails
10. Jet - Paul McCartney
Actually not a bad set of songs, even considering the club/Snipes aversion to RHCP. But yeah, it does have that corporate stench to it.
-
I'm gonna take a pass on this one today. If the consensus is that it was spectacular (yeah, sure) I can always catch the replay.

i'm at the Sound
================
Daytripper - Beatles
Runnin' Down the Highway - Doobies
looks like a roadtrip set?

Hard to believe "When You Were Young" is 8 years old.
And their debut, "Somebody Told Me" is a decade old!

Ray LaMontagne "You Are The Best Thing" [2008]

Would have been nice. But I guess the sponsorship $$$ from APE trumped our SF Giants!

Perhaps, although sports-themed sets are not one of the things 10@10 does well (I just remember "Save Me San Francisco" making an apperance).

some clip This Is Spinal Tap ---> Spoon "Don't You Evah" [2008]

some clip This Is Spinal Tap ---> Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers "Runnin' Down A Dream" (live)

Can't wait to hear which Kanye song she picks. I've already made it my BOS just because so many people hate him for tabloid rather than musical reasons. Plus, if she doesn't pick any songs from the festival's biggest draw, my BOS pick can stand as a protest against the rigid genre boundaries of today's corporate radio.

What do you think: Kanye, yes or no?

Great question. I'm thinking 50-50 odds.

Wrong venue ;)

Whoa, serious Vulcan mind meld.
-
some clip ---> Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers "Runnin' Down A Dream (live)"
The clip was from This is Spinal Tap, where they get lost trying to get to the stage.
-
What do you think: Kanye, yes or no?
Great question. I'm thinking 50-50 odds.
Anyway, if he's represented I'll guess the song will be Stronger.

Kind of a quandary: He is *way* outside the standard KFOG demographic. On the other hand, he's one of three headliners -- how can they NOT play one of his songs?
-
Tegan and Sara, Walking with a Ghost

More This Is Spinal Tap ---> Tegan and Sara "Walking With A Ghost" [2005]

Tegan & Sara, Walking with a Ghost
Have always enjoyed this. A $1 Amoeba pickup.

Most likely. I'll say #10

Yeah, I think they kind of have to play him especially since APE is behind this set.

The other big question: Will this thread have more comments than the Snipes thread? It's close....

Death Cab For Cutie "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" (live) [2006]

Death Cab For Cutie "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" (live)
Great song, if not an exactly inspired selection.
-
Arctic Monkeys "Do I Wanna Know?" [2013]

-
Death Cab For Cutie "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" (live)
Great song, if not an exactly inspired selection.
My feelings on this song are well-known. "If you die, I'll kill myself soon after" is the least-romantic notion I can imagine, but apparently teenage girls feel differently.
-
Death Cab For Cutie "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" (live)
Great song, if not an exactly inspired selection.
At least she played a live version rather than the album track we've all heard a skadillion times.
-
Tegan & Sara, Walking with a Ghost
Have always enjoyed this. A $1 Amoeba pickup.
Yup. I kind of like this Death Cab song, too. Whatever reservations I may have about their sound, I think Ben Gibbard is a talented lyricist.
-
Arctic Monkeys "Do I Wanna Know?" [2013]
This is my BOS of the songs played so far.

Certainly the BCAOS (Best Cover Art Of Set).

Sure, if you like trucker mud flaps ;).

Stonehenge!
-
Arctic Monkeys "Do I Wanna Know?" [2013]
probably my favorite of the "current" hits KFOG is playing these days, mainly because it's not a Mumford clone.
-
Grouplove "Tongue Tied" [2011]

Arctic Monkeys "Do I Wanna Know?" [2013]
last year, more or less, I saw the Killers (meh) and Arctic Monkeys (yay!).

The other big question: Will this thread have more comments than the Snipes thread? It's close....
I think the GS thread is bound to outdistance this one just because there are more people posting there in general. But if you go by number of posts per person, we may have a horse-race.

It's about 48-46 in favor of GS right now. About as close as I've ever seen it. And I've contributed to both!
-
More This Is Spinal Tap ---> Kanye West "Gold Digger" (featuring Jamie Foxx) (edited version) [2005]
ETA: Even though it's censored, I'd give this BOS, just because it's so different from everything else in this set.
-
Yay Gold Digger!
-
Yay Gold Digger!
Although I think it'd be hysterical if this were an AM-style edit and they stopped it after 20 seconds.
-
So, I'm totally Kanye-ignorant. Sounds like a Ray Charles sample. True?
-
And AL giggles all over Kanye

but was it censored at all? Did you actually get to hear the N-word?

No doubt.
-

That's Jamie Foxx singing Ray Charles "I Got A Woman" with amended lyrics.

FWIW, I've got my own monologue going on AL's FB page, editing the same post multiple times. I really enjoyed this set.

Censored -- "broke broke"
-

It's been a while since I heard that song (but I like it), and I do think it samples Ray Charles. Is that why Jamie Foxx is in it? some sort of tie-in to his movie where he played Ray?
Edit: Oh, I see CapnJack answered it. thanks

after looking it up an wikipedia, it seems like it's both Jamie Foxx and Ray Charles

Did AL ever announce what got BOS?
