here's hoping it's not quite the FF fest we got today.
-
uber-LN Request of the day: "Layla". Because you NEVER hear that song on the radio ::)
And one of AL's clues was "I Think I Love You", and since she played a lesser-heard Partridges tune in '71 last month, i would hope she doesn't go to that well again, since "ITILY" is an FF at this point -- another of those '70s cheezeball cuts that radio stations trot out and say "look how cool we are to be playing this!"

Ha! And I bet you $10 that if it does get played, at least one person will say something to the effect of "Annalisa is on fire today"!
-
Late start today as Renee heads off to ski this weekend...
-
And after I just commented the other day that KFOG doesn't play Adele that much anymore... here she is again.
snoozier-than-average TOTHK: The Cat Man. "Wild World." Nice but unnecessary.

TOTHK - Cat Stevens "Wild World"

Late start today as Renee heads off to ski this weekend...
She thinkks "Ditch Day" means ditching work; for me it means ditching Renee.

BOS from me too -- one of my fave George songs ever!
Not sure if it qualifies as a bustout, but will look into that.

The Partridge Family clip ---> The Partridge Family "I Think I Love You"
Awww, she should have played "Point Me In The Direction Of Alburquerque" instead...
-
oy: uber-LN the Partridges (see my comment above)

More The Partridge Family ---> Canned Heat "Let's Work Together"

Hee.

More Partridges --> "Let's Work Together", the Canned Heat version.
Do you prefer Wilbert Harrison's or Canned Heat's version?
-
Tell The Truth, Derek and the Dominoes
"The whole world is shakin' now, can't you feel it?"
-

Wilbert, simply because it was first (iirc) and we don't hear it as often
-
Tell The Truth, Derek and the Dominoes
uber-BOS2 for not being "Layla" ;D
a bustout, methinks
-
Nixon on powerful 4-letter words ---> Derek and the Dominos "Tell The Truth"

BOS from me too -- one of my fave George songs ever!
Not sure if it qualifies as a bustout, but will look into that.
I looked.
Not in the Shraytabase, not revealed in a search of the board here. (It did turn up on a couple of the other regional 10@10s.) So high potential for Bustout-ness.
Ultra-BOS for Tell The Troof. Far preferable to the title track. That's our girl, spinning a lame request into a GREAT one.
-
Bob Hope ---> James Brown "Talkin' Loud And Sayin' Nothin'" - another BOS from me
(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y263/djr45/TalkinLoud.jpg)
ETA: This is the earlier version, which was more rock, copies were pressed, but withdrawn. It was eventually re-released with a different recording and charted in '72. [Thanks to Larry over at Funky16Corners for that info!]
-
holee crap: BOS this James Brown uber-rarity. Not sure if this is the right (charted hit) version of "Talkin' Loud & Sayin Nothin", tho'.
ETA: the hit version charted in '72, in any case.

I think I saw Performance in the old Band Shak at Stanford. That was weird. Not particularly enjoyable.

HaHaHa :)
-
Dayammmm, this set took a hard left turn for the good after the Partridge Family tune (with foreshadowing via Old Brown Shoe).
BOS4, Jagger, Memo From Turner. (Not sure if this is strictly considered a Stones song, although it appears on a few of their comps.)
(Looks like by consensus, this is indeed a Jagger tune, not Stones. I know that's Ry Cooder playing slide.)
-
Women's liberation ---> Melanie "Look What They Done To My Song, Ma"

Women's lib --> Melanie – Look What They Done To My Song. BOS5.

yeah, nice song. first time I remembering hearing it was about a year ago. Never saw the movie.
I went to a jazz club in Wash DC to see some band and Ted Knight and Tony Bennet were there with their dates/wives, they were drunk off their asses. Tony was rocking a Jheri Curl rug.

One Less Bell to Answer, 5th Dimension
My memories are a bit conflicted here. Somehow I feel I'm familiar with another version, but not quite sure who I'm thinking of.
-
MTM --> "One Less Bell", the 5-D. BOS6 just because Mick LaSalle hates it. ;)
This and the Melanie tunes qualifiy as some pretty nice nuggets in my book.
Hell, girl, you know why he left? 'Cause you only made him one egg for breakfast!
-
The Chevy No va (heh) --> "Vehicle"
Damn, what a weird commercial comparing the Nova to OJ Simpson.
And Vechicle was a Morey staple, but it's great.

well it being a bacharach tune, Dionne W did it at one point. But it was (amazingly) written for Keely Smith!

Hell, girl, you know why he left? 'Cause you only made him one egg for breakfast!
plus he liked scrambled, not fried
which was LaSalle's complaint: "NOBODY ever fries just ONE egg!" And that apparently invalidated the entire song for him.

ha, valid complaint, but still a nice song. Love me some Bacharach/David. I have quite a few Dionne Warwick LPs.

Maybe you were familiar with Rosemary Clooney's '68 version which was on the Easy Listening charts?

More evidence that he's a bonehead: The concept of poetic license is totally lost on him.
(I just brought it up as a joke, I still think it's a great song.)

This reminds me of a movie they showed us in middle school (The Secret, maybe, or the Secret World or something?). I just remember an early scene at breakfast, the patriarch of the family was served one soft boiled egg and the boy (the focus of the story) watches with envy as his father eats it. Because only the father gets an egg... Just one.

I'm sure he hates Duran Duran's "Wild Boys"
And your telephone's been ringing while you're dancing in the rain
LaSalle: And THAT is why you need an answering machine.

Well, hopefully you can take some comfort in the fact that the song that's on auto-repeat in your head also took BOS for today's set.
