Title: 25 March 2014: It's 1981
Post by: Big Fingers McGee on March 24, 2014, 04:32:51 PM
This has generally been a tough year for 10@10. Let's see if AL can work her magic. Request thread is up.

If she actually plays Stars on 45, it's all your fault, bub.

I suggested Phil Seymour "Precious to Me" and Yoko's "Walking on Thin Ice".

And I threw out King Crimson's Thela Hun Jingeet. We'll see -- girl does have kind of a proggy affinity to her. Might be a long shot, but that's what I think of when I think 1981.

uber-FF/LN quintet of the week: these were all requested by the same person (who is not a 'snipe or one of us, thankfully):

APP "Games People Play
Santana "Winning"
Rick Springfield "Jesse's Girl"
Geils "Centerfold"
Steely Dan "Hey 19"

Well, at least it would not be an LN.  :P

I remember that person from AL's first go-around. I don't recall that they typically made such awful choices.

By the way, her thread now has 65 replies. It took a few days, but it seems fully back to life.

She played Frame By Frame twice, and it took BOS once.  When she played Elephant Talk,
it also took BOS.  The latter incident led to a brief e-mail exchange, and she related that she
played her cassette of Discipline so much that it wore out.

Hee. Indeed, that song is like "Hold The Line" re-imagined by the McDoobs.

At least we seem to have gotten away from the yacht rock, hopefully for the remainder of the set.

even the Pretenders track is rather LN-y: "Message of Love".

My thought exactly. Great song, loved it at the time it was released. Now, I've heard it plenty.

The first notes of the song came on, and I wondered how vociferous your LN post would be. Pretty vociferous, it turns out.

and I *loved* the guy back then, but he's such a KFOG/classic rock staple that even a TP track that's a bustout would irritate me.

Yeah, it's hard not to get sick of Petty, Boston, et al., given they've been in heavy rotation for over thirty years.

ABC News Brief (gov't shutdown/Russia/Nicaragua) --> "Antmusic". BOS3; she's played it before but it was originally a bustout on her watch, iirc, so she's entitled.

1. Winning - Santana
2. I'm Shakin' - The Blasters
(News: Chuck and Di tie the knot)
3. Sweetheart - Frankie and the Knockouts
(Movie, part 1: Stripes)
4. Love Action - Human League
5. Message Of Love - The Pretenders
(Movie, part 2: Stripes)
6. Burn Rubber On Me - The Gap Band
7. Woman in Love - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
(ABC News Brief)
8. Ant Music - Adam & The Ants
9. I've Done Everything For You - Rick Springfield
(TV: Tom Snyder interviews the Clash)
10. This is Radio Clash - The Clash

ETA: I'd grade this set a B-minus... a few too many FFs (and fairly unforgivable ones at that), altho' the (relative) rarities were good ones.

Per her FB page, today's BOS winners were the Clash and the Gap Band. And Frankie & the Knockouts were runner-up.
