Happy Thursday!
-
hey - it's my year! and elvis', too. well, i meant costello...
-
1977--Dave says this is going to be a good set...hope he's right.
(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes is actually a pretty good start--the song that introduced me to Mr. MacManus' lyrical wiles.
-
Yay Elvis!
I still AM disgusted, actually... :x
-

One Elvis began and another ended...
Is today the day Dave plays "Way Down"? Nah...
-
One assumes this Doobie Bros song is not appearing totally by coincidence.
Lotta folks dying lately--Jimmy Smith, Keith Knudsen, Tyrone Davis, Dean Wormer from Animal House...
-
I feel love!!!!
Disco RULES! Plus I'm home and can pump up the fine techno groove.
ooooohhhhhhhh. Givin me chills.
-
I feel love!!!!
Disco RULES!
Giorgio Moroder: a true visionary.

-
Damn this is fine. BOS Dead.

-
Any chance Dave will play Aja for today's set? :o

i touch down at 3:30 this aft. i'll be sure to tell the queen, madeleine peyroux, and marcy levy y'all say hello. :)
-
sing it, lou!!!
-
not titled, "California."
I'll bet any of you can name (quickly) at least a half dozen that are or are a deviation of. Californication comes to my mind.
-
Grr! Two extended phone calls cost me the first 20 minutes of the set. I know I missed "Estimated Prophet" and "I Feel Love"; what else?

That was pretty much what mattered!

Jeez, Dave -- THIRD wrong-year goof-up in a little over a week. 10cc, "Blackmail" is from '75. Guess he meant to play "Good Morning Judge"...
-
WOS - 10cc. The more I hear them, the less I like them.
Songs from the wrong year that I'd like to hear today:
Machine, "There But For The Grace Of God Go I"
(artist unknown), "Lovin' Is Really My Game"
Connells, "'74-'75"

That could be this year's April Fools set -- a vertical tasting with songs from all the wrong years.
-
But then I realized, I don't think this is from 1977. This isn't a live track, and the only studio record that came out in 77 was Deceptive Bends, which did not include Blackmail. I think it was released about 2-3 years earlier.
-
HM, Mariah Carey, "Emotions" ... er, I mean, Emotions, "Best of My Love."

JINX!
it's from the GREAT (sorry Gaz) The Original Soundtrack.

that's funny, 10cc has exactly the opposite effect on me. connells? hmm...the only connells i know are from the 80's/90's. "fun and games."

"74-75" is a great song. I've only heard it on Virgin Radio tho.
-
HM, Mariah Carey, "Emotions" ... er, I mean, Emotions, "Best of My Love."
:) thank you!! that always bothered me. i'd hear the mariah song, and think i was listening to the emotions, then remind myself the name of the song was "emotions," and it only sounded like an emotions song, but the emotions weren't singing...yadda.
-
VHM OMD (Ozark Maneuvers in the Dark? Orchestral Mountain Daredevils?), "You Know Like I Know" Oh, I know all right...
-
Is this Todd and/or Utopia now, sounding faintly like Wings? I don't think I've heard this before.

Glad to have my suspicions affirmed.
Now we got faux-Todd. Ho hum.
This set got off to such a nice start. Kind of took a dive with the Foreigner song (although I liked the 10cc, the wrong year thing disqualifies it from voting).
-
VHM OMD (Ozark Maneuvers in the Dark? Orchestral Mountain Daredevils?), "You Know Like I Know" Oh, I know all right...
yeah, that sounded niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

Redemption! Bowie's Sound and Vision.
Fans of cool basslines, take note!
-
BOS "Sound & Vision"
VHM2: HHH
-
BOS Bowie, "Sound & Vision"
-
i'm loving this entire set!!! such variety!
that's funny - you two were thinking todd, i was thinking stephen bishop.
blue, blue electric blue.
-
I'll make it unanimous, then: BOS, Bowie "Sound + Vision"
-

Ozark Mtn Dardevils, and it's practically a Katrina. Dave Looooves this one.

Yeah.

bowie should be sexy voice #2. yum, yum. "would you like me to seduce you?" yes, jareth, yes.
-
VHM Rod Stewart
-
blue, blue electric blue.
Yeah.
hey... that's the color of my room, where I will live...
-
i'm not keeping count. please tell me we're not ending on rod! i love him, but this song...with it's wacky rhymes.
and i was kinda hoping for 'aja.' damn you, airbrush! :)
-
but still I love it. I'd say BOS Rod Stewart.
-
Changing my vote b/c "You're in My Heart" is one of my 15 favorite songs of all time. Those pearly keys I'm such a sucker for, some nice rock electric-violin, a singalong chorus, playful backing vox in the right places, an ode to a football team -- what more could a boy like me want from a love song? BOS BOS BOS BOS
-
"The big-bosomed lady with the Dutch accent..."
Oh Rod, how you talk.
"Urine my heart, urine my soul..."
-

I would've settled for "Home At Last" too... oh well. Does my memory serve me right that Dave once played "Deacon Blues" on a '77 set?
-
but this song...with it's wacky rhymes.
Might be wacky or cheesy but something melodic that works for me. I played the song over and over. No specific memory of why comes back to me.

Wish you were right, but this has "song #10" written all over it. Prepare to hear the buzzer, followed by D.P. shortly.
Man this song is insipid.
-
But tell me Every Single One Of You isn't swaying back and forth in time to the final refrain of The Final Acclaim.
-

"You're the best team I've ever seen" OK Rod enough with the tit references.
I'm shocked, I fully expected a WOS2 from you on this one.
-
"The big-bosomed lady with the Dutch accent..."
Oh Rod, how you talk.
"Urine my heart, urine my soul..."
:) i don't understand how gaz can dig this and not like stephen bishop?
-
This set's a keeper.
Have a great day everyone. I'm gonna go cruise to Santa Cruuuuz.
Later.

It's TRULY one of the eternal mysteries  Given the choice, I'd take "On & On" or "All of My Life" any day.

Enjoy your day off!!!

we're evenly divided, then? urth, reg and i on the urinesipid list. and ali, gaz and airbrush are swaying away to the refrain? :)
the song makes me feel like drinking. does southwest serve cocktails on hour-long flights?
-

If it makes you feel better, it got one from me. Sorry, but for the most part, Rod's output took a serious dive when he moved from London to LA.
-

LOL! keep dreamin, babe. They don't even serve hot food on cross-country any more. You'll be lucky to get a bag o' nuts.

some people (who are on this board, but not posting this morning, and who shall remain nameless) would say the same thing about steely dan. well, not the london part...

"customer service" means absolutely nothing in this country.
guess i'll have to buy a small bottle of jack at the liquor store. and feel like a wino. i'll say, "but it's for the plane!" and they'll say, "sure, sure, wino. we bet you're only flying to l.a!" and i'll shrink away from the counter in shame.

Where to from here, kids? :?: :?: :?:

Where to from here, kids? :?: :?: :?:
I have an 11:00 meeting and then I'm CG-ing 'cause I wanna hear what the Brits have to say about Charles & Camilla's impending nuptials.
Am I gay or what?
-

i'm listening to destiny's child, but i can be torn away. i leave at noon, though. where shall we go?

Lucky you--it's looking like a gorgeous day out! Have fun, and don't lose too much money playing skee-ball! (My big vice at the Boardwalk!)

Have fun, and don't lose too much money playing skee-ball! (My big vice at the Boardwalk!)
you and me, both! whenever i see a carnival scene in a movie (most recently, "the cooler") i always wants the characters to play skee-ball. never happens, though. other characters get to play skee-ball, but not the main ones...
...i think i need a fix.

That settles it. Next time I come into the city, we're taking a day trip that starts with skee-ball on the Santa Cruz boardwalk (with a side trip to say hi to Angela Davis if she's around), proceeding to a ferry ride to record shopping (and the Grace Slick art gallery?) in Marin/Tiburon, and closing with dinner in the Mission. How's that sound?

Sounds great but it also sounds like a VERY loooong day. Plan to start at 6am? Santa Cruz is a day-trip by itself. I'll happily drive to either SC or Marin (and Marin record-shopping must include Mill Valley which is a bit far from Tiburon); both in one day is a bit too much of a muchness.

Agreed. You just described a weekend, not just a day.
Record-shopping in Marin pretty much begins and ends at Village Music. I know of a couple of indie used stores in San Rafael (Bedrock and Maximum Music--my wife used to work for the latter), but neither has a spectacular selection any more. But you can easily kill 2-3 hours or more at Village, and that's if you DON'T start chatting with John Goddard, the owner.
Sarah and I happened to get married in a hall that's just across the street, and after the reception we and all our vinyl junkie friends went over to Village and pawed thru the bins for a short bit, still in our wedding garb. John said that was a first.

As a matter of fact we do. Our photographer was also my best man/best friend's girlfriend, so she came right along with us, cameras in tow.
-
All the above sounds fun. I made it to Santa Cruz but not the Boardwalk. BEEE YUUUUU TEEEE FUL DAY! Long drive and you guys live farther than I do. Definitely too much to do south and north in a day.
I can't remember the last time I visited the Boardwalk. Love SkeeBall. During the unfortunate times I have visited ChuckECheese or Malibu Grand Prix with the kids, I have played SkeeBall. Also played during the summer in Reno at the Circus Circus arcade.
-
listened without posting yesterday, enjoyed the set but was busy at my desk doing other stuff.
Regarding "I Feel Love", that woulda been my BOS, just because that song takes me places that most songs don't even approach. Can't say how or why, but in my list of lists this is one of the songs in the Evocative category.
When I was in Vegas for CES, and visiting the Intel booth, I got a free copy of the Blue Men Group's most recent DVD, which has a very interesting version of this song w/guest vocals by someone called Venus Hum. Very cool, although not as cool as their version of Baba O'Reilly featuring Tracy Bonham on vocals.

Dynamo's sister, obviously.
