Wrong again. AMG sez 1999 the album was released in Feb 83, but 1999 the single charted on the club play (No. 1) and black music (No. 4) charts in 82.

Beej, where'dya get those tambourines?

then "State of Independence" I think  it's Donna Summer's version, hard to tell from Jon and Vangelis

State of Independence is sort of a Katrina, but I liked it enough to buy the iTunes single. Never remember hearing it in 82...

Donna Summer

are there any more covers of this besides Moodswings and Jon and Vangelis?

Looks like it's just the three of us today, guys.

Let's see: Gaz is on vacay, Mike probably has his Thursday meeting (nice timing this week!), Ali is still on new-job probation, Beej is off pursuing his dramatic muse, and POC is somewhere on the European continent. And no telling about Dave Mack, or the rest of the occasional folks.

Absolutely--he dropped in while I was writing that last post. Greetings Rastermon! Thanks for helping shore up our lagging attendance!

Ditto here. Now if we could just get some BeBop Deluxe in a mid70s set....

Back from a meeting (good guess, Beej!) and I'm sorry I missed "Eye of the Tiger". It WAS a huge record, and Dave doesn't play it often.  VHM on that basis.  Sometimes ya just need some cheeze.

Oh, it's Bill Nelson.  I get it.  Not enough guitar, here, though.  That's why I really like BBD...

We were thinking of the BBD connection indeed.

BOS Rick James, "Dance With Me". is this a breakout?  God this was HUGE on NY radio.  Would love to hear "69 Times" from this LP (featuring Grace Slick!).

This is the second time Beej has been mentioned, but I don't see him here.

Title: Bonus track bonanza!
Post by: urth on June 02, 2005, 04:07:00 PM
I am in complete shock. Today's bonus track was Gang of Four's I Love a Man in Uniform. I would bet 20 bucks that's the first time that song (and possibly ANY Gang of Four song) has been played on KFOG, including 10@10.

(Yesterday's bonus track was Bowie's 1984, which struck me as borrowing heavily from the Theme from Shaft. Not tough to see how he got from there to Young Americans in the space of a year though.)

I was home sick today, got the same thing my 3 year old had Tuesday, and he saw fit to relapse himself.  Listened cursorily, but not motivated to get out of bed and post.

My only thought to share: Jon & Vangelis are the original writers of "State of Independence", so their version is not a cover.

I know we've heard it before, if only because I am certain that I have pasted my bad pun here about an Mesopotamian archaeological version:

"I Love A Man In Cuneiform".

Yes, of course.  I should have said "versions," but had the 'covers project' idea stuck in my head.  They were totally useless, and had no listings, but are under construction, and hard to say.
