Ry Cooder, 58

TANC. I just saw him last weekend at Village Music. (I didn't just run into him, he was doing a signing for his new album, My Name's Buddy.) If I'd known, I'd have wished him an early birthday. I was impressed by the turnout though. I arrived early and he was already set up and signing stuff. I queued up and got my stuff inscribed, then hung around to watch and do some shopping (found a copy of the long out-of-print and never on CD Workshop by NRBQ for a mere $25). By the time 2pm rolled around (when it was scheduled to begin) the line wrapped around the aisles of the store, and there was another line out the door and down the block to get to the register just to buy his album--I'd say there must have been a couple hundred people there, easy.
