seriously -- I could not believe I was reading the story earlier.  She's still alive, tho', from what I've seen (undergoing surgery at this hour). Sharron "2nd Amendment solutions" Angle has blood on her hands.

Latest word is that she has so far survived, but is in critical condition with a bullet wound to the head. However, at least 5 others were killed, including the chief judge of the U.S. District Court in Arizona and several members of her staff, as well as a 9-year-old girl.

The shooter used a 9mm handgun. Now explain to me again why private citizens need to own such high-powered armaments.  And I hope Gov. Jan Brewer isn't allowed to appoint a replacement under Arizona law--if she is, then we get one more republican in Congress.

I hope people can keep the rhetoric out this tragedy. Doing so is, IMO, is really disgusting. I saw this on another message board and I will nevrr go back there again. The killer is just a nut....the 9 year old girl who was killed was born on September 11, 2001.

I agree with Rachel Maddow that it serves no good purpose at this time to speculate on the nutjob's political persuasion.  With someone that unstable, he could be coming from any direction.  Yes, Sarah Palin deserves to rot for what she's done, whether or not it directly affected the shooter's actions.

Yes the guy is insane, whatever his political affiliation. Even the army thought so -- but crazy people can buy guns in AZ, which is, well, crazy.

And violent anti-gov't rhetoric *is* at an all-time high in this country, and much of it tends to come from the rightward direction.

The Drive is doing the Moment of Silence at 11 eastern/8 Pacific, and preceded it with CSNY's "Find the Cost of Freedom"
