Post by: RGMike on March 22, 2005, 07:30:50 AM
Probably won't be as New Wave-y as Dave's '82 set last week, but I'm betting Tommy Tutone may reappear.

OMG! The Drive is playing Stevie & Don, "Leather & Lace"!!

I'm gonna wager on some Donnie Iris, some Tubes, some Stray Cats (or were they '83?), and some solo Michael McDonald.

Ah! Leah! was '81, Stray Cats straddle '82-'83.  Which Tubes are you expecting?

Kind of an unimaginative set, I'll give BOS to America's "You Can Do Magic."  Very much of its time.

You know darn well...
...that I'd like to hear some of the following:

"We Got the Beat" - Go-Go's
"Steppin' Out" - Joe Jackson
"Southern Cross' - Crosby, Stills & Nash
"New World Man" - Rush
"Abacab" - Genesis
"Genius of Love" - Tom Tom Club

Donnie Iris: what about "Love Is Like a Rock" (which I hate)?

Tubes: oh, I dunno.  Was this the year for "Beauty"?

A VHM from me at very least, since you never hear this one. Dave's never played it to my knowledge -- I don't think KOIT even has this in rotation!

WOS: "Bad to the Bone."  Even if I liked the song, its overuse in trailers for movies showing precocious kids misbehaving would be enough to make me hurl chunks onto the vinyl.

And Zantz CAN'T dance. But he'll steal your money.

Actually Bob has played his share of '70s disco, including some Dave's never done, like "5th of Beethoven".

You say that as if his films aren't essentially interchangeable.  (Yes, that means I'm suggesting Linda Hamilton and Danny DeVito are interchangeable, but humor me.)

I mean, really, though: when you hear those opening chords, don't you expect to look up and see a Macauley Culkin-esque urchin mugging for the camera?

At least Eddy Grant is a good rehash.  I still like "Romancing the Stone" better, though.

And "You Got Lucky" is probably my favorite Petty tune.

Yes. It's actually not a bad movie, Pamela Reed as his partner steals the show. I remember seeing it in early '91, I was quite depressed about the Gulf War and needed to see something mindless & stupid and found it to be much better than I expected. And compared to its many recent clones (Pacifier, Are We There Yet?) it's practically Shakespeare.

You'd think Bob and Dave would play more Paul Davis.  I don't think I've ever heard him in either 10-spot!  "'65 Love Affair" is a great lost classic.

Well, it's not exactly a good movie, but I'll grant you that Pamela Reed outshone everyone else in it.  Come to think of it, the subplot of her & her husband (comic Bob Nelson) is uncannily similar to what the Coen brother's did with Fargo.  I wonder if they'd admit it was an influence.

I'd love to hear that, even tho' I prefer his pre-Arista stuff.  "65LA" is a bit slick & obvious compared to, say, "I Go Crazy".

I thought it was pretty impressive, actually. I hadn't seen the Grammies and when I heard it I thought it was Susan Tedescchi at first.
