per the just-aired Annalisa promo.  I may skip out early if it's not compelling.

Being as the MS gang is out at the Cliff House, I realized we were in for a classic, particularly when Dave offered Charles another glass of champagne. Was hoping for something older than yesterday's gem, but alas, no.

Hey POC, did you record last night? Or did the Jackson Browne song scotch the whole deal? I was out at the Music Hall watching a reunited 80s indie band (Slint) that my wife loved and that nearly put me to sleep (the lingering jet lag helped).

"Radio-Active". Which they hoped it'd be, airplay-wise. Not an auspicious start, IMHO.

see, what had happened was...

i bought cassettes. i was home around nine, started practicing, looked at the clock, it said 10:34.
:(
i'll blame it all on jackson browne.

what time does the replay begin in the morning? i can probably catch it then. if so i'll make you a copy.

Hands-down BOS: Bonzo Goes to Bitburg!!!!

I don't recall ever hearing this before--and I love this song, so I think I would have.

BOS Ramones, just saw "School of Rock" again the other nite and this is used effectively in a musical montage moment.

Yep, definitely Ramones (which I didn't say specifically in my last post). Surprised that they could get Johnny to play on it, given his conservative leanings.

Nobody "sounds like" Joey

It's "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg".  Is this '84 or '85?  We did '85 less than 3 weeks ago.

I missed the intro to the set--I assume this is '85? That's the year I associate with the Firm and the Fogerty comeback, and Green Grow the Rushes.

In any case, not too bad a set for mid-80s. At least so far. Hope I didn't jinx us.

BOS2, Bastards of Young.

Wow, this may be the best 1985 set ever! Ramones and the 'Mats! And REM!

Was hoping Westerberg would toss this in when I saw him a couple weeks back. Still a great show.

(And I still am typing like sh*t. Amazing how quicky one's skills erode.)

You're going to Jazz Fest? I'm jealous!!! You gotta go to the Acme Oyster bar and have some ersters and crawfish for me! Which weekend are you going?

Agreed.  If Dave manages (or I should say managed) to get through the rest of the set without any egregious Katrina's this will be getting my vote for best '85 set ever.

acme oyster bar? ok, i'll write it down. i'll be there after the first weekend, but before the second. definitely going to the fest on the 30th and the 1st. and charlie hunter is playing in town that week, too. it's going to be a big ole music orgy.

Does Squeeze count as an egregious Katrina? I'm thinking in 1985 it doesn't--this was not a big year for them.

Or is this Difford & Tilbrook?

"Big ol' music orgy" pretty much defines jazz fest. Don't plan on sleeping much. And check out the gospel tent when you're at the fest--it's always got it goin' on!

Acme is in the French quarter (on Iberville a block off Bourbon, I think), but they have the best mudbugs. If I think of anything else I'll pass it on.

I wouldn't call this a Katrina (and we know how picky I am about that!)
It would have to be, well, Katrina herself. Or Huey.

Per Allmusic, it was a fellow named Keith Wilkinson. Don't know much about him, save that he was a member of Squeeze in 1985. I don't recall the name of the song, but I think it was on Cosi fan Tutti Frutti, which they released that year.

musta been Keith Wilkinson according to Allmusic, Squeeze's 3rd bassist.  The album is Cosi Fan Tutti Frutti, but I don't know which song we heard, only that it wasn't "Hits Of The Year"

I'm so clueless, I didn't know it was Squeeze!  Well, at least I didn't identify the bass player as Pino Palladino, since it was a fretless sound.

Six in the bloody morning. I've never been able to get up before 8 on a Saturday to catch the first couple of sets, and I have a feeling that tomorrow i'm gonna be sacked out til 9 or later, as the jet lag has not loosed its grip on me yet.

Sheesh, you go away for a week and they switch everything around. Although I think I approve of this change. I imagine there weren't too many people getting up to tune in at 6am on a Saturday. 7's a little better, although I still probably won't be catching the first set of the morning
