Damn. One of the best voices Motown had. And they had a lot.
This day just isn't getting any easier, is it? And it's not even 10:30. :'(

Gaz, where did you hear the news -- it's not on SFGate or the NYTimes site.

Surprised it's not on an AP wire yet.

I didn't know he was Jackie Wilson's cousin!

of course, KPOO's JJ is saluting Mr Stubbs tonite -- in the '70s segment he played the great "One Chain (Don't Make No Prison)", one of the best #41-peak singles of all time, IMHO (later covered by Santana). He also played a '78 disco number called "Help" (NOT the Beatles tune) that was NTM and sadly, rather forgettable.

At long last there is a 4 Tops anthol that emcompasses nearly EVERY charted hit from all their labels -- Motown, ABC, Casablanca, even Arista. No "Loco in Acapulco", dammit, but everything else. It's 2 discs and available for 15 bucks or less.

seems like a good deal, thanks for the link! I just might buy it.
btw, JJ on KPOO this morning once again featured The Four Tops. I heard maybe the last 10 minutes, but it was good stuff, as usual. He played one song from before they on Motown, but I forgot the name. Not sure if anyone heard it... ?
... and JJ's playlist page on KPOO (their program sked is here http://kpoo.com/programs.html) is gives a 404 error. I'll write to him.

Sorry I missed that. BTW, JJ's playlist page hasn't worked for as long as I've been listening to him ;)
