The Drive, 3/3/09: Trios for 3/3
« on: March 02, 2009, 09:15:49 AM »
the Rolling Stone reader's poll chose these as the top 20 trios of all time:

Quote
1. Jimi Hendrix Experience
2. Nirvana
3. Cream
4. The Police
5. Rush
6. The Beastie Boys
7. Green Day
8. Muse
9. Primus
10. ZZ Top
11. Run DMC
12. The Jam
13. Wolfmother
14. Crosby, Stills & Nash
15. Motorhead
16. Blink-182
17. Sleater-Kinney
18. Ben Folds Five
19. Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble
20. Hüsker Dü

and reader comments on their website yield these other suggestions:

Grand Funk Railroad
Buddy Holly/Crickets
Melvins
Meat Puppets
ELP
(later) Genesis
Sublime
Hanson
Bee Gees
Tony Orlando & Dawn

Granted the emphasis in Rolling Stone was on bands; but surely Bob will play the Supremes?

Should be an interesting set!

ELP are still turned on -- y'know, guys, if it lasts more than 4 hours you're supposed to see a doctor.

GFR show up -- at least "Footstompin' Music" is an unconventional choice.

James Gang, "Funk 49" -- great story from Walsh (NTM) about how they became a trio.

Jimi and the Experience close us out, foxily.

Strictly AOR on this one -- no Supes, no Bee Gees, etc. We were promised Thin Lizzy, and the "just played" music log showed them as song 8, but Bob actually played Triumph in that slot. Sheesh.

ZZ Top - La Grange
Police - Don't Stand So Close to Me
Cream - White Room
Genesis - Follow You Follow Me
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Still You Turn Me On
Rush - Tom Sawyer
Grand Funk - Footstompin Music
Triumph - Magic Power
James Gang - Funk 49
Jimi Hendrix - Foxy Lady
