I like America, but this isn't my favorite.  I guess I always thought of it as a Neil Young knockoff.
They had other songs?   :o
I've always loved Ventura Highway and Tin Man.  They both feature excellent bass lines.
Also 'Sandman' (preferably the longer album version), it builds up and gets cookin' -

Stones 'Shake Your Hips'(?) into Archie & Edith into Al Green 'Let's Stay Together'
That was Sweet Black Angel (or sometimes called Black Angel).
Thanks for the correction, I was half-distracted here at work during that song.  Now I'm on the good foot.

Many confused America's "Horse" with Neil, whose 'Heart of Gold' was also on the charts at same time, both tunes hitting #1.  You'll recall America went on to win Best New Artist Grammy for '72, unlike many of those winners, they actually continued to put out hits (thanks in large part to working with producer George Martin).

Tower of Power is opening the 100th Anniv of Alameda County Fair this June 20th

In Memoriam, Happy Birthday / Re: RIP Davy Jones, ex-Monkee

The first record I ever bought was the 45 of "Pleasant Valley Sunday/Words" in 1967.  In the '70s my little sister cut out the pic of the Monkees from the picture sleeve, Aaaargh!  Coincidentally, this past Christmas I rec'd the entire TV series on two-volume DVD (released last fall), all 57 episodes + pilot, other extras, fun stuff.  I've been watching an episode or two on a weekend morning: http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/51778/monkees-season-1/
