Look!  Up in the sky!  It's a Doobie!  No, it's a Dupree!  No -- it's the Pointer Sisters!  HM just for the surprise.

OMG! BOS3 to the Pointers channelling the Doobies. Is this a breakout? Kudos, Dave!  There WERE black folks in the Top 40 in 1980 after all!

ETA: I emailed Dave to say this makes up for Color Me Badd.

We're getting a lot more early Squeeze on all the shows lately (or is it just me?).  I remember Dave used to trot this stuff out a LOT, rarely does any more.  BOS to "Pulling Mussels From a Shell" just for those subtle harmonies on the lead-in to the refrain.  Which one of them has the low-buzz-hum vocal technique?

VHM Squeeze for rhyming "Waikiki" with "creepy".

I had a friend named Michelle who thought this was called "Pulling Muscles for Michelle".

Chris Difford, I think. Tilbrook is the higher, poppier voice singing lead.
Let's get right to it.

But it would have been interesting to see what they would have said if John Hinckley Jr.  had succeeded.  Cuz that boy was nuts.

Was he?  I thought the consensus was that he's been faking it all this time in order to have an easier quasi-prison life.  That said, take me with you if you find that alternate universe!  And Rod, thanks for posting that bit on the relationship of language to class -- that's been a meta-interest of mine for some time.
