Title: 21 Sept 2010: it's... 1975
Post by: RGMike on September 20, 2010, 06:06:27 PM
Here's hoping for some obscurities.

ETA: well, I'd rather AL cuts the cake than cuts the cheese.  A fine TOTHK.

I'll second that.  And I dig the AWB so happy with this start.

OMG! BOS Linda's fine cover of "When Will I Be loved" -- if not a bustout, then quite the rarity.  I'm assuming that's Andrew Gold on gee-tar?

BOS for Head East.  Haven't heard "Never Been Any Reason" for years and years.  I couldn't remember if this was Uriah Heep or Humble Pie.  Turns out it wasn't.

Sounding alternately like Styx and AC/DC.

indeed, quite the amalgam of mid-'70s AOR. And here's the aforementioned cheese: "Sister Golden Hair" -- the surprise is she's not a natural blonde.

VHM Genesis when they were prog -- I'll certainly take "Lamb Lies Down" over the requested "Carpet Munchers Crawlers"

yup -- I daresay it's been ten years since Dave played it, but he used to play it a LOT in the '90s (pre-shraytabase), alternating bewteen this and "Blackmail" from the same LP.

TANC: I just bought this CD last weekend.  Three bucks at the Fort Mason Book Bay (http://www.yelp.com/biz/book-bay-fort-mason-san-francisco)!  which, btw, now has a cafe attached to it, and they serve Blue Bottle coffee and empanadas.   (high five)

I recall a live version of this song making the rounds, too.  Lots of yelling and whooping by the band.  good energy.

On my short-list of the best (but overlooked) LPs of the '70s. "Life is a Minestrone", indeed.

Meant to mention this was one of my requests -- and a bit of a surprise; when AL started playing Patty Hearst clips I half-expected "Fast-Buck Freddy". Or Elton's "Meal Ticket" ;)

Agreed.  It made it only to #45.  Her last charting lead vocal, IIRC (apart from her Starship duets, all of which had Mickey as lead).
