So Alive and soooo many other Love & Rockets songs that I prefer.

I'm not loving this whole not-taking-requests-on-FB-anymore thing.  '89 wasn't this dull.

yeah, but not taking request doesn't mean the sets have to suck...
Only if you have a pesky new PD breathing down your neck.  ;)

Hey, SundayGal, did you happen to hear what went down over at Channel 92.3?

Off the top of my head 1989 set that would be 'acceptable':

Roxette: The Look
Was Not Was: Walk The Dinosaur
Red Hot Chili Peppers: Higher Ground
Roachford: Cuddly Toy
Neneh Cherry: Kisses On The Wind
Prince: Batdance
Henry Lee Summer: Hey Baby
Jive Bunny & The Mastermixers: Swing The Mood
Carel Fiaka: Hey Matthew
Basia: New Day For You

I now see that I'm a day late on this.  See the Local Radio thread in the Stream of Consc'ness forum.

Basia -- the Polish Sade.

Agreed except for the Jive Bunny which is a HFH for me. I'd add Tanita Tikaram, "Twist in my Sobriety" and Grayson Hugh's "Talk it Over"

Hard to pinpoint exactly with the Facebook timekeeping, but it looks like AL had to jumpstart the 10@10 comments herself this morning.  Another set that sounded like Dave-when-he-was-bored.

I'd also add:
You Keep It All In - The Beautiful South
I Don't Know Why I Love You - The House Of Love
You're History - Shakespears Sister

Oh, and just about anything off of Raw Like Sushi (Manchild, Inner City Mama, etc.) would be fine by me.

I would say that the Jive Bunny tune is worth precisely one listen. But I sure as hell would rather hear that than Stevie Ray Vaughn.

I'm kinda meh on "Talk It Over", but "Twist In My Sobriety" hasn't been heard by me in ages, and I'd love to hear it on 10@10.

Neneh Cherry might hold my personal record of "appreciation appreciation", if that makes any sense (the Gin Blossoms might be an example of "appreciation depreciation". I'd go as far as saying that her second album is even better.

If you can pull that off the top of your head, then you are my friend for life Tim!  Great song, nearly great album.  The title track is also wonderful.

Ugh.  Black Velvet could possibly be the worst song of 1989.

can't argue w that.  no need for it.
I wrote on the FB page that it was one of the worst songs of that year and AL wrote back, "Shhh, don't tell, but I never quite got it, either...:)
People love it, tho. It tied for best-o-set. 1st time I've played on 10@10. I know it was a Dave fave on 10@10."

Doesn't look so bad on paper, FYCs and Black Velvet notwithstanding, but don't think I'll be tuning in for the replay either.  Belated BOS to XTC and Todd, VHM to TFF, quite the sonic smorgasbord there.

3/1/11- Tuesday!! It's About Time We Hit...1989!!

 1.  Nirvana- About A Girl
 2.  Smithereens- A Girl Like you
(TV: The Wonder Years)
 3. Simply Red- If You Don't Know Me By Now
 4.  Todd Rundgren (w/Bobby Womack)- The Want of a Nail (BOS-Tie!)
(News: Bush just says no to broccoli)
 5.  XTC- Mayor of Simpleton
(TV: Cheers-here comes the Mayor)
 6.  Fine Young Cannibals- She Drives Me Crazy
 7.  Alannah Myles- Black Velvet (BOS-Tie!)
(News: Berlin Wall)
 8.  Love & Rockets- So Alive
(News: Tiananmen Square)
 9.  Joe Satriani- Flying In a Blue Dream
(Movie: Dead Poets Society)
10.  Tears for Fears- Sowing The Seeds of Love
Let's get right to it.

I still say it's a Morey-on-autopilot set. But tomorrow should make up for it.
