Big Rick posted this fun game on his FB page:
Hey Everybody! It is thought that collectively Fogheads know everything. So if you listen to Kfog Fm or not let's play a game! Name songs that start with a question as the first line of the lyrics but do not have a question as the song title. Example of a wrong answer. "Do You Know The Way To San Jose?" both song title and first lyric are a question, no go.
He went first with Bohemian Rhapsody. I selected Blue Monday "How does it feel?" and (I'm Always Touched By Your) Presence Dear "Was it destiny? I don't know yet."

The Who - from Quadrophenia
The Real Me: "Can you see the real me? Can ya? Can ya?"
5:15: "Why should I care?"
... And yet another: Cut My Hair starts with something like "Why should I care if I have to cut my hair?"
-
a few more occurred to me
The Candy Man: " Who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew?"
Blowin' In The Wind: "How many roads most a man walk down before you call him a man?"
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer: "You know Dasher and Dancer... etc.., but do you recall the most famous reindeer of all?"
Cat People (Putting Out Fire): "See these eyes so green?" (ok, that might intended to be a statement or command, like "See, these eyes so green.")
-
Don't forget the Moodies' "Question": Why do we never get an answer...?
-
Or The Stranglers "Always The Sun".
How many times have you woken up and prayed for the rain?
-
Or jumping back a few decades, the Theme from 'Love Story':
Where do I begin to tell the story of how great a love can be?
That one may get disqualified as its full title includes the parenthetical (Where Do I Begin).
-
I thought I'd pick a year and see how many charted hits I could find that start with questions. This is 1969 (see how many you can ID):
"Anybody here seen my old friend Abraham?"
"Have I ever told you how good it feels to hold you?"
"Why do you build me up Buttercup, baby, just to let me down?"
"If you had a choice of colors, which one would you choose, my brothers?"
"How can people be so heartless?"
"What do you get when you fall in love?"

Build me Up Buttercup
"If you had a choice of colors, which one would you choose, my brothers?"
??
"How can people be so heartless?"
- Easy to Be Hard - Three Dog Night (I knew it was a 3DN song, and although I have it on my itunes, I forgot the title and had to look it up)
"What do you get when you fall in love?"
- I'll Never Fall In Love Again, Dionne Warwick's version, please!
-
"Why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near?" ask the Carpenters in their song Close To You.
-
Speaking of 1982...
If I say to you, "Can you keep a secret?"
OK, here's the next line:
Would you know just what to do or where to keep it?

Ding ding ding! on the ones you guessed.
"Have I ever told you how good it feels to hold you?"
??
is tricky; it's a remake of an early-'60s hit.
"If you had a choice of colors, which one would you choose, my brothers?"
??
is a soul classic.

I know this is the wrong year and genre, but I keep singing this with the People Who Died (Jim Carroll Band) melody!

What would you think if I sang out of tune,
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
or as Joe Cocker might sing:
What would you do half-a-sat attitude?
Would you standard a war cat emmy?

Is there anybody going to listen to my story ... ?
Who's peeking out from under a stairway ... ?
Isn't it rich?
-
Is there anybody going to listen to my story ... ?
You go, Girl!
Who's peeking out from under a stairway ... ?
everyone knows that's from Windy
Isn't it rich?
Stephen Sondheim was on Terry Gross' Fresh Air talking about this song (among other things), and he said he constructed those first lyrics b/c the singer chosen for the role really wasn't a singer, and those lines could be uttered effectively by more or less saying them in a conversational tone:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Send_in_the_Clowns#History
"Sondheim wrote the lyrics and music over a two-day period during rehearsals for the play's Broadway debut,[4] specifically for the actress Glynis Johns, who created the role of Desirée.[4] According to Sondheim, "Glynis had a lovely, crystal voice, but sustaining notes was not her thing. I wanted to write short phrases, so I wrote a song full of questions" and the song's melody is within a small music range."

as one wag once said about Sondheim: "Isn't he rich? Isn't he queer?"

listening to KPOO, and JJ is laying down the Smoove Grooves.
He played an R Kelly song that starts with a question, woo hoo! this is probably the only time I'll ever hear this song, so I thought I'd immortalize it here:
R Kelly
Love Letter
Did you get my card?
Did you get my love letter?
technically, the song starts with some "Do do do's" and a "Yeah," but we won't count that.
-
"Who's gonna tell you when It's too late?
Who's gonna tell you things Aren't so great?"
"If I fell in love with you
Would you promise to be true
And help me understand?"
-

Drive - The Cars
This one was killing me, btw. I was like, I KNOW this, I do!

Don't you feel like trying something new?
-
"Are you ready, Steve?"
-
"Are you ready, Steve?"
;D ;D ;D ;D
-
"Why do you come here?
And why do you hang around?"
"Guess who just got back today?"
"Is it wrong to want to live on your own?"
-
"Why do you come here?
And why do you hang around?"
Morrissey - Suedehead. Almost as good as The Smiths. ;D

"and wha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-hyyyyyyy..." I may have asked this before, but: is a Suedehead a skinhead who can't make up his mind?
-
"Hello, how are you?
Have you been alright, through all those lonely
Lonely lonely lonely lonely nights?"
-
"If I fell in love with you
Would you promise to be true
And help me understand?"
Beatles (yay), "If I Fell"
-
Don't you feel like trying something new?
Um ... Joe Jackson, "Breaking Us in Two"?
-

Ding ding ding.
There's an obvious S&G nobody has mentioned yet.
-
"Guess who just got back today?"
In yesterday's set even.... we all fell about the place.
-
"When you dance
do your senses tingle and take a chance?"
-
"Hello, how are you?
Have you been alright, through all those lonely
Lonely lonely lonely lonely nights?"
The pride of Rockford, Illinois, Cheap Trick and How Are You?

Ah yes, the Boys Are Back In Da Hood! Word up.

Nope, it's "Telephone Line" by ELO.
-
"Who's the queen of the locker room?
Who's the cream of the crop?"
Kind of obscure, though it is on a pretty famous greatest hits package.

If you hadn't made the 'greatest hits package' comment, I'd've guessed Suzi Quatro.

This artist plays it fast and loose with gender in certain situations...

Yikes, you're right. :-[ :-[ :-[ I gotta start getting more sleep.
The song I was thinking of goes:
Hello,
How are you?
How'd you sleep last night?
Did you Dream of me all night?
-
Don't you feel like trying something new?
Um ... Joe Jackson, "Breaking Us in Two"?
Ding ding ding.

I just realized what it was, but it was b/c I was looking at a list of their songs, so it's like I cheated.
-
two more:
Is there nothing I can say,
Nothing I can do ?
Hello?
Is there anybody in there?
-
"When you dance
do your senses tingle and take a chance?"
Neil, "When You Dance You Can Really Love"
-

"Who's that knocking on my door?"
"Set me free, why don't you baby?"
-

Handbags And Gladrags & You Keep Me Hanging On. Schweet!
-
"Why do you come here?
And why do you hang around?"
Morrissey - Suedehead. Almost as good as The Smiths. ;D
heheh, based on what you said here, this one should be easy:
"Is it wrong to want to live on your own?"
-
"Who's that knocking on my door?"
Ick. Macca at his sappiest.
-
"Who's that knocking on my door?"
Ick. Macca at his sappiest.
if you're thinking of "Let 'em In", that begins "Someone's knockin' at the door..." The question is posed by someone slightly more rockin'.

D'oh! :-[ And, for the record, having the correct lyrics stuck in my head is no better than having the wrong lyrics stuck in my head!

Sheila take-a, Sheila take-a bow. ;D

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag drifting through the wind? ( ::))
-
If I could stick my pen in my heart
And spill it all over the stage
Would it satisfy ya or would slide on by ya?
Or would you think this boy is strange?

I like, like it...yes I do!

"How many times do you hear it? It goes on all day long."
