This week, That '70s Casey visits April 28th 1979:

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/04-28-79.pdf

This is the first time that Casey's syndicator is offering stations the option of airing the 4-hour version of a 1979 show (instead of starting off at #30). Don't know yet if any of the stations we usually listen to (CKRU or Magic 98) will go with the 4-hour version.

**UPDATE**

As a tribute to Dick Clark, They are making the one time he guest-hosted AT40 (in March 1972) available to stations that carry "AT40: the '70s". Thay can run the Clark show instead of the 1979 show -OR- run both shows if they want. So far we don't know what CKRU or Magic 98 will be doing.

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/03-25-72.pdf

ETA: Both CKRU and Magic 98 will be running the 3-hour version of 1979 this weekend. the AT40 Geek Board has a list of stations running the Dick Clark show; I'll research times (and whether they stream) later today.

OK, the *other* Canuck station that runs Casey on Sat morning, CKWS, is running the 1972 Dick Clark show.

http://player.ckwsfm.com/

also WODS in Boston is running the Clark, Sunday nite @ 9pm Pacific.  But it appears almost none of the stations carrying the 1979 show will be running the 4-hour version. Bummer.

Comments are in FB, as has become the AT40 defualt -- the '72 Dick Clark-hosted show has some great forgotten tunes: Honey Cone, GrassRoots, Tempts, Dennis Coffey's *other* instrumental. And Macca getting his Irish up and being banned by the Beeb.

Per comments on the AT40 geek board and on FB... the 1979 show featured one of my favorite Casey moments: the Walter/Wendy Carlos story. Casey did a thing about Moog Synthesizer whiz Walter Carlos' sex-change.  I remember hearing it (and beeing quite blown away by it) in '79; it is one of the most amazing things I ever heard on AT40 -- a very sympathetic reading of a very misunderstood topic. I can only imagine the blowback Casey got from some of his more conservative affiliates in 1979.  Will have to listen tonite.

Magic 98 just played KISS' "Christine Sixteen" -- she's been around/but she's young and clean! er... WHAT??

Casey's '79 chart includes the Pointers' forgotten follow-up to "Fire", "Happiness", which I surely haven't heard since it charted.

wow, just heard Casey tell the story. Every bit as amazing (and non-judgmental, on his part) as I remembered. One of the many reasons I'll always love Mr Kasem.

Meanwhile, the BeeGees' "Love You Inside Out" is one of the great forgotten #1s of all time.

April 1980 gets under way: James Last's instrumental "The Seduction" from American Gigolo -- I'd totally forgotten about this.  Followed by Bette's still-beautiful "The Rose", as we segue to FB to post comments there.

(so if you listened to the Dick Clark show from 3/72 over the weekend... you'll hear a lot of the same songs)

and Casey's '80s is from May 4th 1985:

Bread's lovely "Diary" gets a VHM.  But this Bobby Vinton tune was played last week on that Dick Clark show and once was enuf.

OMGWTF and BOSFRA: "Mister Can't Ya See?", the only Top 40 hit Buffy Sainte-Marie ever had.

BOS2 "Sylvia's Mother"; BOS3 the lovely Glodean White, walkin' in the rain.

Ah *LURVE* Gladys' cover of "Help Me Make it Thru the Nite". BOS4 and proxy of Gaz.

BOS5 Nilsson, "Jump into the Fire"

VHM the J-5, entering their '50s-remake period, making for a nice segue to "Me & Julio".  Sammy makes a groovy lemon pie -- with Maneschwitz Cream White Concord, no doubt.

Hey baby, see that ugly guy over there? His name's Lobo and he says someday he's gonna f--k the shit outta you. Are you swooning yet? Didn't think so...

VHM ONJ. Let her know, already!

VHM Bo Donaldson -- I still say it was ballsy to release this in 1974, even tho' its a bubblegum HFH for many.  Meanwhile, Carly mocks JT's bird, and Gordo meets a 'ho named Sundown.

More Canadians: BTO let it ride -- BOS1.

Sistah Janet praises da Lawd; Rev Al gets married. But Jim Stafford can't marry his girl, Bill.

Helen Reddy rips off BJ Thomas. John Denver makes us cry.

4 soul songs in a row: JB, Marvin/Diana, Bobby W and the O'Jays.

"Todo da bien Chevrolet!"

Sorry to have missed the rest of this fun set, especially the top 20 (PSBs, Whitney, Brenda Russell, The Deele, etc.)  The top 5 is somewhat of an atrocity, however.

'77 kicks off with Marilyn & Billy doing their best Marvin'n'Tammi. BOS1.

Starbuck's *other* hit; nice mellow cheeze from Peter McCann; Dean Friedman meets "Ariel" at the mall. uber-BOS2.

VHM John Miles' disco-y "Slow Down"; ditto the Sylvers at the "High School Dance".

more dancing: Thelma goes disco; Seger meets a "dancer", nudgenudge winkwink. And the Addrissis do some slow grindin'. "they wear their jeans so tight, and wiggle their... class" A more innocent time.

Kenny Nowwan! "Wuv's Gwown Deep".

Steve Miller gets some funky... kicks. Mr Parrothead has the hit that calcified his career.

BOS3 the Jacksons' fab "Show You the Way To Go"; VHM Shalamar's Motown medley.
