It was NTM - and per Billboard, this was its only week in the 40, at the anchor position.  I love catching songs in their rarest of AT40 moments.

Elvis' "Where Did They Go Lord?" is NTM. In the mold of "If I Can Dream", but without the social relevance.

And at #39, the fabulous Fuzz ... **WHICH MEANS** we get our first BOS. Bet Barry White was jealous when he heard this one. "Damn, Glodean can do that!"

VHM Ray-Ray. This chart is 3 weeks before my first encounter with AT40: WPIX started airing it with the May 8th show that year.

BOS2 Smokey's forgotten "I Don't Blame You At All".

I remember when Casey played something from the #1 LP each week -- BOS3 Janis' you-NEVER-hear-it-any more "Half Moon".

VHM EJ's "Friends", for all the world to see.

BOS4 JB's "Soul Power". I thought Ree-Ree's Marvin'n'Tammi cover was unnecessary back then, but she does her usual fine vocal.

Ha! just heard King Floyd's under-heard "Baby Can I Kiss You" on KPOO this week. VHM.  "Baby let me do it now/'cause I'm 'bout to do it anyhow"

BOS5 Rupert Holmes's early songwriting success with the Buoys' "Timothy".  Gawd what did we dooooooooooooooo??

Glen Campbell's "Dream Baby" cover got zero airplay in my neck of the woods.

the song of the Puerto Rican Jew! "Oy Vey Como Va"!

uber-BOS6 John's "Power to the People" -- imagine a song this political getting mass airplay today.

Good gosh-a-mighty, now! Hour 2 begins with BOS7, easily my fave Staples joint.  Sha-na-boom-boom, yeah! (co-written by Bobby Bloom!)
 
And from sha-na-boom to chick-a-boom, with TO & Dawn in-between.  I agree with Gaz that the fake applause is way cheezy but melodically it's another sweet Drifters hommage, even if they were reaching the end of that artistic thread. VHM.

I love that they've left all the (relatively) ancient "extras" in this show -- "Mule Train", "Sleepwalk" -- altho' playing Santo & Johnny in '71 is the equiv of playing Sugar Ray in 2011. Scary, eh?

BOS8 Stevie W with one of the best Beatle covers evah. VHM Alice at #22 with "18".

WOS "Stay Awhile" -- easily one of the worst vocals ever to hit the Top Ten. Seriously, WTFF?  Painful.

VHMs Bread, "If" and the 5-D's "Love's Lines Angles & Rhymes", which I appreciate a lot more now than I did then.  Always a BOS9 for George's Spectorian chant.

Hee. Yeah, he took that paycheck gig the following year. Meanwhile TJ (sans Shondells) becomes a three-timer. And Lipps, Inc are here to lip-synch.

I worship the Rascals, but the Felix Cavaliere comeback attempt is a tad underwhelming -- way too Cristopher Crossy.
