This week's heads-upses...

Casey's '70s goes to June 23rd 1973

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/06-23-73.pdf

and the '80s hits June 25th 1983

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/06-25-83.pdf

we're overdue for  '78 and '88 charts, no? (as someone pointed out over on the AT40 message board, there are only a few more Casey-in-'88 shows left before he left and was replaced by Shadoe Stevens).

Anybody here keep track of which shows are played? I keep wondering if any of these are repeats from previous years (such as last year or 2008).

I don't keep a list or anything, but my ears tell me we've only gotten the occasional rerun of shows they've re-run before. *these* guys, however, at the two AT40 message boards, seem to keep track. And if you thought we were geeks...

VHM The Crusaders Paul Humphrey & His Kool-Aid Chemists, "Put It Where You Want It" "Kool-Aid".

TANC: JJ just played this on KPOO -- not the first time he's TANC'd a forgotten soul nugget that Casey had played the previous weekend.

Must say that this week's June 23rd 1973 chart is not only wonderful it's also rather sledgehammery, as this was the week I graduated high school.

Whoa.

According to the geeks at the above AT40 boards, some of whom seem to have connections in radio and/or at Premiere (the AT40 syndicator), word is that on the 4th of July we're finally going to get the very first AT40 from July 4th 1970 -- they've been saving it for this year since it's the 40th Anniversary...  It hasn't been heard since they re-ran it for the 5th Anniv in 1975.

Sirius/XM had planned to broadcast it last year but they made a mistake and put July 11, 1970 instead.

Listening to a bit of this, had to pop in and BOS Gladys & her Pips, talkin' 'bout Daddy.  (Watch ya' mouth!)

our Canadian friends are playing a NTM cover of "Into The Mystic". No clue as to who it is. Johnny Rivers charted with it in 1970 but it wasn't him.

BOS1 the mighty 'berries, "Let's Pretend", their lovely corrollary to the BBs "Wouldn't it Be Nice".

BOS2 our second Perry Como appearance of the week, his sweet cover of "And I Love You So".

Now don't touch the knobs, 'cause ah think we're gonna hear BOS3 from Geils.

apropos of SF Guy's earlier question... I just realized we've heard this particular chart before when Casey mis-identified Tower of Power as being "from San Francisco", earning Oaktown's undying wrath.

VHM the smooth Chi-town soul of the Independents' "Leaving Me".

Most Appropriate of Set: the aforementioned Gladys with "Daddy Could Swear"; Most Underrated and Forgotten: the Stylistics very nice cover of "You'll Never Get To Heaven".

Always a BOS(4) for NYC.

Shoo-bee-doo-lang-lang: VHM Karen & Richard, waxing nostalgic.

kudos to this Canadian "extra": 5-Man Electrical Band's *other* hit, "Absolutely Right".

Not much to say about the top 13, except that I'm probably the only person here who doesn't consider "Playground in My Mind" to be a HFH. An un-guilty pleasure, to my ears.

If they do play this show, can anyone tape it and upload it to something like sendspace or rapidshare? I doubt we'll hear the show again so it would be nice to get an mp3 or something saved on the hard drive.

'83 in full effect: an odd first hour, with double doses of Prince AND Bryan Adams.  VHM the late Ms Branigan's "Solitaire", which I didn't really appreciate at the time.

BOS Chris DeBurgh's "Don't Pay the Ferryman" -- this and the Branigan are the only songs of the first 10 that really qualify as "songs radio hardly ever plays anymore"

And for the 4th of July 1983, Casey did "the 40 biggest artists of the '80s... so far"?? Talk about jumping the gun!
