This 1980 set was entertaining for its you'd-never-hear-this-anywhere-else-ishness, but nothing really inspired a BOS vote.  The top 8 were unchanged from the previous week, and the top 6 (I think) were holding steady for 3-4 weeks.  Yeesh.

Top 40 sho' was goin' thru dem changes in 1980.  And here's Firefall, making '70s and '80s appearances this week. "Headed for a (Fire)Fall", indeed.

Followed by EJ's "Daniel"-esque "Little Jeannie", his bounce-back from the "Victim Of Love" failure.

VHM Dolly's forgotten "Starting Over Again" -- as sweet and tender as Bernadette Peters' cover of "Gee Whiz" is unnecessary.

BOS smooth Smokey, whose "Let Me Be The Clock" is also unfairly overlooked, being the less-successful follow-up to "Cruisin'".

BOS2 Jermaine (with some help from Stevie) and his fabulous "Let's Get Serious" -- how a song that was #1 R&B for 6 weeks only got to #9 Pop is a mystery.

I've got this on in the background while I get ready for softball, and you're right, LGS is BOS.

WOS to this precursor to Kenny G, which I'm glad I slept through this morning.

ha! your characterization is dead-on. Casey didn't mention it's from American Gigolo.

Damned indecision! Should I BOS or VHM MJ with Tom Bahler's ode to Karen Carpenter?

BOS3 the Spinners -- "Working My Way" is one of the better discofied "oldies" of the period, and also a sledgehammery memory of driving around the Bronx with my first BF with this on the car radio.

coming up: "Coming Up", NOT live from Glasgow.

Paul Davis's "Do Right" is one I totally don't remember.

BOS4 The Divine Miss M's "The Rose" -- which got disqualified for the Best Song Oscar when the songwriter (Amanda McBroom) went on The Tonight Show and mentioned she'd written it years before the movie was made. Oops!

This 1980 set was entertaining for its you'd-never-hear-this-anywhere-else-ishness, but nothing really inspired a BOS vote.

what, not even "Pilot of the Airwaves"?

Shouldn't Chris Isaak and Huey Lewis team up for a remake of "The Biggest Part of Me"?  ;)

BOS5 Jimmy Ruffin's "Hold On to My Love".

This doesn't beat April 2, 1983. The top 11 were unchanged. 6 other songs in the top 20 were unchanged and no song dropped out of the top 20 from the previous week.

To be honest, I don't remember most of the top 40 for the 1980 show.

You're right; forgot about that.
