How about the creepy LDD that used "Every Breath You Take" for the 80s show?? A woman dedicates that song to minor league baseball players. I hope she doesn't know that song was about stalking.

Yes -- very scary. Dunno if she was oblivious to the real meaning, or if Casey was.

To spare us a segue from Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein" into Helen Reddy's "Peaceful," we thankfully got a commercial break - and, as an AT40 Extra, a NTM!  Usually they do massive, overplayed hits for those extras, but this time it was Keith Hampshire's (who?) cover of "The First Cut Is the Deepest."  Wow, has that been covered a lot.

Wow, quite a soul-packed first hour:

Independents
NYC
First Choice
Al Green
Staples
J-5
Ronnie Dyson

Plus Gladys, the Tempts and the One-Eyed Gott later on. Looking forward to this evening!

in case you've never heard it: the British hit of "Peaceful" by Georgie Fame, of all people...

a UK hit in the summer of '69.

and instant BOSes to the sublimely smooth "Leavin' Me" by the Independents and New York City's best-record-the-Spinners-never-made, "I'm Doin' Fine". Still needs an additional verse, tho'.

and a big "10-4!" to First Choice, left with another mouth to feed. Maybe Honey Cone can share the daycare expenses.

I still prefer the orig studio version of "Cherry Cherry" to this live take, but hell, it's one of the great WTF album covers of all time.

Am I crazy, or does the Staples' "Oh La Di Da" sound like the Osmonds' "Down By The Lazy River"?

VHM L&M's sweet "Thinking of You"; WTF the New Seekers' "Pinball Wizard/See Me Feel Me" medley; BOS3 Carly's forgotten "Right Thing To Do".

And a V-VHM the J-5's Vietnam-is-over anthem, "Hallelujah Day"

Uno Momento Poquito! VHM Sylvia. Nice... teddy!

Like 9 cans o' shavin' powder, the Ohio Players first hit is, well, more silly than funky.

and it isn't out-of-the-question to give Gilbert O a VHM.

How odd: a truncated "Daisy A Day" that eliminates the big tearjerking payoff. Wha?

But BOS-in-perpetuity Ms Flack-as-Lori Lieberman -- c'mon Lori, you were REALLY stoned at that Don McLean concert, no?

ETA: a more expected edit -- Candy ain't givin' no head "on the Wild Side" if Casey can help it.

here are Ms Reddy and Johnny Nash, back-to back at 14 and 13 with follow-ups to #1 hits that, sadly, both failed to make the Top Ten.

another BOS-in-perpetuity to Ms Knight and the biggest Pips in showbiz.  "mammaries... those old mammaries... get in my way..."

Donny O's "12th of Never" is one of the better of his "They're making me cover all the male vocal hits of the late '50s" efforts.  Casey promoting his first "Disappearing Acts" special (aka OHWs) reminds me what a treat it was to hear that show on 4th of July weekend '73.

the Sesame Street tune "Sing" finally becomes a hit, courtesy the Carpenters, tho' Barbra Streisand recorded it the year before, peaking at #94. Sorry, Babs.

nice stuff and forgotten hits in the first hour of this '85 chart: Rick Springfield celebrating youth, REO's "One Lonely Night" (amazing it even got as high as #19), HoJo getting better, the Time's fun'n'funky "The Bird", and the original Katrina.
