This week, Casey's '70s visits 1978... again. (March 11th 1978)
http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/03-11-78.pdf
except for a couple of debuts (Enchantment, VH and the pre-Golden Girls incarnation of "Thank You For Being a Friend"), just about every song was in the '78 show we heard a month ago.
Yes, and even tho' this '78 replay is being heard about a month since our last visit to '78 (2/25/78), the chart is from 3/11/78, that's just two weeks later!  And this is the third '78 show in about six weeks!  The syndicator needs to mix it up a bit more!  In protest, let's have a look at a chart from this week in another year, the "lost" AT40 year of 1979 (3/24/79): http://www.oldradioshows.com/at40/032479.html

and the '80s chart will be from March 15th 1980 -- the smallest possible gap between the 2 shows...

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/03-15-80.pdf

'80 is more interesting: the Knack's shameless "Sharona" knockoff, "Baby Talks Dirty", Peaches & Herb's shameless "Reunited" knockoff "I Pledge My Love", Dr Hook's shameless BeeGees rip "Sexy Eyes" and -- voila! ---"An American Dream"!

The Knack seemed like they just used the same beat for both songs. I could have sung along (badly) replacing Baby Talks Dirty with My Sharona.

This weekend, that '70s show will feature March 30th 1974:

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/03-30-74.pdf

and the '80s version visits March 28th 1987:

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/03-28-87.pdf

featuring Madonna's "la Isla Bonita" with one of my fave m-greens: "young girls with eyes like potatoes".

But it's the '70s version with the gems this week: Soul Children, "I'll Be the Other Woman", the Staples touchin' and friendin', Lamont Dozier tryin' to hold on, and Charlie Rich back-to-back with hisself! Oh, and maybe Helen Reddy's worst single: "Keep on Singin'".

Soul Children, "I'll Be the Other Woman"

This will be NTM when I hear it.

Wow, that would have fit interestingly on one of Millie Jackson's "Caught Up" albums.

Other NTMs this week: Elvis' "I Got a Thing About Ya Baby" (were there ever rumors about his, um, thing?); Charlie Rich's "There Won't Be Anymore" (the lesser half of his twin-spin); and Lamont Dozier's precursor to Tricky Dick's shit, "Tryin' to Hold On to My Woman."  Glad I was up early for this one!

My contrarian co-BOS votes go to Sister Janet Mead's "Lord's Prayer" (that bass!) and Mocedades' "Eres Tu."  I feel like I'm watching Eurovision whenever I hear this (which isn't often).

Every time I hear something like "Mockingbird" (or "Mexico," or "Shower the People," etc.) I want to forcibly shoot heroin up James Taylor's ass.

I believe the consensus (from the many women who've written about their, er, close encounters of the Elvis kind) is that it was average-to-small.

In Casey's '80s, Donna Allen's "Serious" is an unnecessary piece of its time, and I was never warm to "La Isla Bonita."

I have no memories of Glass Tiger's "I Will Be There," though I must have heard it at the time.

Agreed, and I 'd like to re-iterate that (a) "Keep on Singing" rips off the melody of "RockNRoll Lullabye" and (b) Sammy Jo's "Tell Me A Lie" is a lovely bit of Nashville songcraft -- I'd've loved for Gladys to have covered that one.  That Charlie Rich song "There Won't Be..." was a from-the-vaults re-release by his old label, trying to capitalize on the success of "Most Beautiful Girl".

VHM Diana & Marvin singing to each other from separate studios.

I'm just catching up with the Canadian feed -- I never liked "Bonita" either, and that m'green doesn't help.
