BOS2 3DN's "Out in the Country" -- no secret that I love that one.

Melanie gets 2 hits on this chart; the New Seekers' cover of "Look What They've Done To My Song", and her own "Peace Will Come" -- VHM for another example of how political songs made the charts regularly back then.

GFR get closer to a hit than they'd been previously. It's worth remembering how HATED they were by critics at the time.

BOS3 Ms Ronstadt's exquisite rendering of "Long Long Time".

Quite an embarrassment of riches here, and we're still in the first hour!  VHM the Supes with another of their post-Ross gems, "Everybody's Got the Right to Love".  And BOS4 Michael Nesmith's lovely "Joanne".

But just plain embarrassing is Hotlegs' "Neanderthal Man" -- even a 10cc worshipper like me can't defend this one.

But lawd have mercy! BOS5 Charles Wright and the Watts 103rd Street Longest-Group-Name-Ever, 'spressin' theyself.

Another BOS(6)-in-perpetuity to the Spinners: "It's a Shame" is always on my list of best Motown singles of all time.  VHM the late Ronnie Dyson's "(IYLMMLTYT)WCITY?"  And Neil Diamond shows up with the first of *his* 2 hits, a re-release of "Solitary Man".

BS&T get some o' that ole sweet roll; the Guess Who enjoy the fuzzy-wuzzy love'n'touch explosion. Or something.

ah, there's nothing like playing with something that's yellow and chubby, eh Ernie? NYC had 3 active Top 40 stations in 1970; all of them ignored "Rubber Duckie", to their everlasting shame.

Me, I'd've preferred to play with Tom Jones in 1970. Rrrrrrrrowr!  BOS7 "I Who Have Nothing".

More all-time-faves of mine: BOS8 "Cracklin' Rosie", BOS9 "Don't Play That Song", one of my 3 or 4 fave Aretha singles -- and the 2nd Ben E King cover in the Top 20.  And BOS10 (!) is a Ben E King hommage, Dawn's "Candida" -- the Drifters and everyone at the Brill Building would be proud.

Casey says "25 or 6 to 4" cribs from a Stan Kenton record, but doesn't say which one.  Bobby Sherman is tossin' & turnin' & freezin' & burnin'. And I'm exhausted: this has been one terrific chart.

dunno about charted singles, but there's Alice Cooper's "Cold Ethyl" and some people think the Stones' "She's So Cold" is necromantic.

The station no longer does that, much to everyone's dismay.  They were offered here:
