Van Stephenson's "Modern Day Delilah," with the sublimely ridiculous line "She'll love you like a lion, then leave you like a lamb."  Are lambs notoriously flaky?

Maybe he means she'll love you for the entire month of March?

TANC: Casey played part of "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" by way of informing the listeners of Mickey Thomas's pre-JStarship past before "No Way Out" in the '80s cast.  And now, in the '70s (which I'm only now hearing the first hour of), we have the song in its original chart run.  BOS to Maxine Nightingale and "Right Back Where We Started From," one of the very first ever songs I remember hearing as a kid.

WOS - John Travolta, not even close.  Fine, John, Let Her In, but you gotta stay in the sound proof chamber.  ay-yi-yi....

He gushes that Macca is singing lead with 2 diff bands in the same week, but ignores the fact that George Martin was back-to-back with himself, producing America's "Today's the Day" at 30 and the Fabs' "GTGYIML" at 29.

Agreed on the Travolta.  I bought his GH comp on a whim during one of my recent SF visits, and I can't even listen to it ironically.

As for the Beatles - I'd love to know what precipitated this single's release.  I have a love-hate relationship with its production.  There's something warm, and yet something seems off.

no big secret, really -- Capitol decided to to a major re-marketing of the Beatles in 1976, with the compilation LP Rock'n'Roll Music (ironically, the Beach Boys single of "RmRM" was a hit at the same time).  "GTGYIML" was a song that had always tested well, and was thought of by many as one of those "it shoulda been a single" tracks.

FYI, WHNN is going the '80s route again this week, playing Casey's this-week-in-1985 chart:

http://www.whnn.com/goout.asp?u=http://www.whnn.com/Article.asp?id=583277&spid=

so far no clue as to what the '70s year will be.

ETA: it's June 26, 1971!!

James Brown's "Escape-ism (Part 1)" is NTM: it's not on either of the JB comps I own.  Pretty typical period groove for him.

Earlier we had Paul Humphries' Cool-Aid Chemists: he may have been a fine drummer, but someone was a horrid producer; the fake applause is even worse than that on "I Play and Sing."

BOS to the Fortunes, who for years I thought were the Four Seasons on "Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again."  Doo-do bop bop!

WOS to Tom Jones' "Puppet Man."  Embarrassing backing vox on that.  Unlistenable.

BOS2 to Gladys Knight & the Pips' "I Don't Want to Do Wrong," one of the very best cheating songs I know.  PoC sent me a grand live version by New Birth, but the original is the best.

sounds like he recorded that for -- and WITH -- the Muppets themselves.  (And speaking of Muppets, good to see your blog back.  10-4, good buddy.)

Thanks, John!

#30 was Joe Cocker, "High Time We Went."
I'm blanking on 29, though - must not have been memorable.

So how did Helen Reddy's inferior "I Don't Know How to Love Him" outchart Whinyface Elliman's?

WOS2 to "Double Lovin'."  Besides it being a knockoff of a J5 knockoff, it's distasteful to have a mental image of young Donny bragging about having two bullets in his gun.

eww, that was the Osmonds?  I thought I was hearing a pre-op Michael Jackson.  I wasn't paying close attention.

But I was digging on The Supremes' Nathan Jones -- BOS.
