Hoping Bob resists the (corporate) urge to play "Layla". I'd love Ronnie Dyson or Robin MacNamara or Emmit Rhodes, but I'll settle for White Plains. And I'm sure there's Beatles and/or Macca in store.

Oh honey, dog-GAWN it, I depend uPAWN it, so lay a little lovin' on me!
I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey." Also 3DN's "Out in the Country." And "The Rapper."
-

2 out of 3 ain't bad ("Uncle Albert" is summer of '71). But I always love hearing 3DN's OINC.
-
Yay for horns all over the place. HMs to Van and the Ides. Previes never sounded so good as the latter.

Oops, I was thinking it was an immediate followup to "Another Day" -- was that one also 1971? What month in '70 did Let It Be come out?
-

THis is also true of PERVIES. I can't type today. Running on 3 hours sleep.
-
keep those horns-a-comin'!
-
What month in '70 did Let It Be come out?
Feb or March, as I recall. At least that was when radio started playing advance copies.
-
keep those horns-a-comin'!
can "Lucretia McEvil" be in store?
Stevie you just so damn BAD!
-
For some reason, I've never really liked SSDIY. Can't articulate why -- there's not much different between this and his other uptempo hits of the period -- but it rubs me the wrong way. Hrm. :?
-
"i have seen phil spector, he has been here, too"
but he ain't heavy, he's my brother.

10@10: Bursting with more culture/song references per square inch than any other b-board!

I think my head's about to explode!

as overplayed as it is, i always love the way paul sings, "don't go so fa-ayaya-ya-aast."
-
BOS to the stentorian master Edwin Starr.
Although I can't hear this without thinking of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry convinces Elaine that the working title of "War & Peace" was "War: What Is It Good For?"
-
back to the horns!!
i saw the roots on my bday in amsterdam two years ago, and they opened the show by looping "war...what is it good for?" over and over again.
that means this nonsense (http://www.anysoldier.com/index.cfm) has been going on for two years.

that's much better than picturing jackie chan.
-
P.S. This mix highlights some really *great* tambourine playing. No fooling.

i had to look up extremely loud.
-
gosh, if bob played think's "once you understand" right now, that would be great.

Mr. Kirk, do you have a son, Robert Kirk, age 18?
-
gosh, if bob played think's "once you understand" right now, that would be great.
no it wouldn't. One of the Worst. Records. Ever. Not even so-bad-it's-good. Just BAD.
-
-
is Color My World cribbed from Ludwig Van?
-
Too. Much. Sugarloaf.

Too. Much. Sugarloaf.
Bob's just CWAZY about Jerry Corbetta.
and ladies and gentlemen... the LOOOOOONG version!

Try sitting through a twin-spin of that and Victor Lundberg's "Open Letter to My Teenaged Son."
-

The beginning just reminds me of Moonlight Sonata, but I'm pretty ignorant of classical music, so don't pay me no mind!
-

no such-a-thang, miss millie.

you have to listen to it stoned. then things will get a little easier.
-
I remember some musician friends of mine at the time really liked this song. I was pretty green back then as a musician. Nice guitar work, and the percussive organ stuff too.

It's the "Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This" of its time: nice riff, but Run Into The Ground.

Indeed, I always associate the two in my mind. At the time, there were 2 edits of the Think record -- one ends with "he died of an ovedose" followed immediately by the musical coda; the other has the (endless) breakdown-and-crying-jag by the father. Hearing that on Sunday morning during Casey Kasem (the only place in NY the song was heard) could REALLY put you off breakfast...
-
dumb girl question: is calling a team a "pennant champ" the same thing as calling them "world series champ?"
great god in heaven, thank you for canadians!!!!
-
Spooky piano intro! What a brilliant artist. Great song. Have y'all heard Eva Cassidy's version?
The WM stream is destroying the tone though.
-
Damn! I was actually gonna predict "Woodstock" but forgot. Doubt I would've guessed Joni's morose reading anyway.
-
BOS Joni. Nice to hear her (rarely played these days) version of this song.
-
"I came upon a child of God ... so I offered him a Kleenex."
-

:) i could imagine. casey wasn't playing anything quite so upsetting when i was listening ('84-????).
-

No "pennant" means you won the league championship (and the right to challenge the other league's champ in the WS).
-
"I came upon a child of God ... so I offered him a Kleenex."
blasphemous!
but why didn't i think of that?
get the funk out my face!!

Yes those were the days -- the only place I ever heard "The Ballad of Lieut. Calley" as well. And doubtless the only place a lot of folks heard Dylan's "George Jackson".
-
"and later in the year CSN&Y would have their way with it".
And with Joni too, as it turned out
