AL soliciting requests, in addition to 'foolish' movie/tv/other clips.
-
'twould be foolish to miss this one. Actually, it's one of those annual sets that's always pleasant but rarely earth-shattering (like Tax Day or Earth Day, both coming soon). I still say we need a "Jesus Rock" set on Good Friday, but i've given up hoping for that.
-
For comp's sake, from the Drive:
Tue 4/1/14: A Fool's 10
The Beatles Fool On The Hill 15.4%
The Rolling Stones Fool To Cry 3.8%
Def Leppard Foolin' 1.3%
Foghat Fool For The City 7.7%
Styx Fooling Yourself 5.1%
Led Zeppelin Fool In The Rain 12.8%
Aretha Franklin Chain Of Fools 6.4%
The Doobie Brothers What A Fool Believes 10.3%
The Who Won't Get Fooled Again 28.2%
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Fooled Again 9.0%

I think one can extend that to most 'themed' sets - about 90% of them range from ok/pleasant to awful (the Giants' opening day set from 2011 comes to mind). Once in a blue moon, we get something awesome, like AL's ode to radio. But yeah, I think radical said at least once something to effect regarding theme sets: Pass

One thing I'll say for RR: she (or Rosalie, or Bill) did manage some surprisingly good theme sets in her tenure, usually for unexpected reasons (President's day etc). I hope AL manages a few off-the-beaten-path Fool songs -- that Drive set above is a pretty fucking obvious collection of FFs.

Good point - that might have been the best aspect about the RR era.
-
Someone requested Chris Rea's "Fool (If You think It's Over)" for Monday's '78 set and i thought "she'll save that for Tuesday". Didn't see it on any of the sets posted for this morning so far. I do love that one.
-
Well, Zep was a given, methinks.
"When I'm breathless I'll run 'til I drop - HEY!"
-
TOTHK - Led Zeppelin "Fool In The Rain"
-
Oh, Miss South Carolina, you're beyond being merely "foolish"
BOS1 Rick(y) Nelson "Poor Little Fool"
-
Miss Teen South Carolina ---> Ricky Nelson "Poor Little Fool"
Nice!
-
Oh, Miss South Carolina, you're beyond being merely "foolish"
BOS1 Rick Nelson "Poor Little Fool"
That was truly stunning.

so we're doing famous fools, I guess: Steve Carrell from The Office --> Stone Roses "Fool's Gold"
-
Oh, Miss South Carolina, you're beyond being merely "foolish"
BOS1 Rick(y) Nelson "Poor Little Fool"
BOS1 to Ricky!
-
The Office ---> The Stone Roses "Fools Gold"
-
The Office ---> The Stone Roses "Fool's Gold"
this was never played on KFOG, right?
-
"Ah pity the fool!" -- not sure if she meant to slip that in the middle of the song, but kudos.
-
Oh, Miss South Carolina, you're beyond being merely "foolish"
BOS1 Rick(y) Nelson "Poor Little Fool"
Definitely an AL-worthy segue.
-
The Office ---> The Stone Roses "Fool's Gold"

in regular rotay, no. But AL's played it a couple of times on 10@10.

And I know Dred's played it at least once. But no, nothing that would be considered a AAA mainstay.

"Ah pity the fool!" -- not sure if she meant to slip that in the middle of the song, but kudos.
I liked it there. Funny. I bet we here it again elsewhere.
-
SNL Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (Sarah Palin / Hillary Clinton) ---> The Beatles "The Fool On The Hill"
-
Fey/Poehler as Palin/Clinton --> "Fool on the Hill". BOS2.
-
SNL Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (Sarah Palin / Hillary Clinton) ---> The Beatles "The Fool On The Hill"
VHM just for its general all-around pleasantness!
-
Dubya ---> Homer Simpson ---> The Who "Won't Get Fooled Again"
-
Dubya, Homer Simpson --> "Won't Get Fooled LN" Fave mondegreen: "I know that the hippie's eyes never lie"

They really stretched out there with Aretha and the Doobs.
-
Dubya, Homer Simpson --> "Won't Get Fooled LN"
Turn it up to 11 and it'll be OK. I know I am.

SNL Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (Sarah Palin / Hillary Clinton) ---> The Beatles "The Fool On The Hill"
VHM just for its general all-around pleasantness!
BOS for Tina Fey / Amy Poehler: I had forgotten how amazing Tina Fey was in that role... :)
-
Dubya ---> Homer Simpson ---> The Who "Won't Get Fooled Again"
I wonder if the W to Won't Get Fooled Again was a subtle dig at Obama: "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss." Probably not.
-
Dubya, Homer Simpson --> "Won't Get Fooled LN"
Turn it up to 11 and it'll be OK. I know I am.
Great segue (a bit obvious but who cares)
-
I would not have been upset if she'd played the 45 edit of the 'oo tune. ;)
"Chuckles the Clown" -- uber-BOS3. Genius.
-
The Mary Tyler Moore Show Chuckles the Clown wake ---> Rufus Wainwright "April Fools"
-
The Mary Tyler Moore Show Chuckles the Clown wake ---> Rufus Wainwright "April Fools"
thanks for the ID -- I don't know as much of his catalog as I probably should. VHMFRA.
-
The Mary Tyler Moore Show Chuckles the Clown wake ---> Rufus Wainwright "April Fools"
BOS for Rufus doing a pretty credible Beatles impression. Good song.
-

"Chuckles the Clown" -- uber-BOS3. Genius.
listening at home on Comcast, it sounded like "a little dance" was cut from the Chuckles bit.

Dennis Rodman's "basketball diplomacy" in North Korea --->
not recognizing this "fool"-blues tune Johnny Winter "Be Careful With A Fool"
-
Dennis Rodman -- uber Fool!
followed by some bloozy fool-ishness.
-
Shazam says it's Johnny Winter, "Be Careful With a Fool."
VHM just for its raw guitar tone!
-
She's definitely pulling out a few things we would not normally hear (see also: The Drive). Props to her for the Ricky Nelson, Stone Roses, and Johnny Winter, just for starters.
Had I thought of it I'd have asked for David Bromberg's great I Will Not Be Your Fool. Maybe next year.
-
more Office (?) --> JJ "Watching the Foolish Master Blaster Detectives in Love"
-

BOS. I was pretty sure it was Johnny, but I wasn't really paying enough attention early in the track.
VHM, JJ.
-
The Office ---> Joe Jackson "Fools In Love"
-
Oh, Miss South Carolina, you're beyond being merely "foolish"
BOS1 Rick Nelson "Poor Little Fool"
That was truly stunning.
I've always felt bad for her and that the reaction to what she said was disproportionate.
-
Annie Hall "I lurve you, I loave you, I luff you" -- leftover from Valentine's day?
Elvin Bishop: *praying* for the 45 edit here. ;)
-
Annie Hall ---> Elvin Bishop (Mickey Thomas vocal) "Fooled Around And Fell In Love"
-
this is wear I don my RGMike-styled cranky pants and feel all LN-ish
Elvin Bishop, Fooled Around and Fell in Love

more Valentines-y stuff: "Lovefool". BOS4.

it's played all the time, true, but that doesn't excuse the radio edit used here. :(
-

Elvin Bishop, Fooled Around and Fell in Love
I won't complain, cause it always reminds me of a return trip from Hawaii with Mr. Bishop on the plane. We hung out at the baggage claim and all his road stuff showed up on the carousel. OK, so I didn't say anything, but it was kinda cool. I sort of recognized him on the plane, but couldn't place him. Pretty sure he was not in 1st class.
-
clip ---> The Cardigans "Lovefool"
I don't know what year this came out, but it sounds like fodder for all the 80's lovers!
-
The Daily Show on Toronto mayor Rob Ford ---> Aretha Franklin "Chain Of Fools"
Up to #11!
-
wow, this is a loooong set. Daily Show on Rob Ford. Never gets old.
Ree-Ree: "ChaiLN of Fools"

it's a '90s thang, yo.

Mr. T "I pity the fool!"
-
Mr T to close us out. Heh.
-
And we've reached page 5!
-
It's been nice hanging out with y'all on my Spring break. I'm gonna crank Quicksilver's "The Fool" to close off the festivities.
-
With "fool" in the title of each song, this played like an extended version of Connected.
-
Johnny Winter and Cardigans didn't register on the KFOG Tunegenie; I'm surprised about the Cardigans tune, which seems like it gets some KFOG airplay.

which will presumably have the same theme tonite -- no repeats!

sometimes TuneGenie is just wonky, i think. The Peak did a 1973 set today and amidst a bunch of off-format rarities, it was Dr John's "Right Place Wrong Time" that didn't show up.

Yup, it's an imprecise tool to determine relative rarities.

I think it's that way -- hit or miss -- with all 10@10s. One of my favorite AL theme sets was
her nautical show on 12-Oct-10 to commemorate Fleet Week.
A lot of theme sets are related to holidays or other annual events, and when associated songs
become perennials then the concept runs the risk of getting stale. We're seeing that a little
with the St. Patrick's Day sets featuring Irish music. Dave avoided this by taking different
perspectives (songs about green for St. Patrick's Day; Valentine's Day sets about breakups
or sex). Dave also had his regular theme sets like Soul Patrol and Strictly Instrumental, which
are broad enough to offer great variety.
