and we're off.... :cry:
-
My turn to 86 my thread today.
But this 88 set is likely to make tomorrow's Hits From Hell sound all that much better.
-
Since they were talking about ZZTop on the Morning Show today I think Dave should play "Velcro Fly". That was '88, right?
6!

Indeed -- '95 and '88 back-to-back... yeesh!
Has Dave made any mention of HFH? I emailed him Monday to suggest Motown (or Soull Patrol) HFH in honor of Stevie Wonder's B-Day.
-
Shoot, I'm gonna miss HFH tomorrow: filling in a copy edit shift at the Voice, and I'm not even sure they have the necessary media apps installed.
In the meantime, Stevie dials in the biggest hit of 1988, which tells me everything I need to know about this year. (Chicago's "Look Away" did the same thing for '89.)

Yes, he mentioned it this morning. He couldn't bring himself to do
a Motown HFH cause he's from Detroit... So it will be a HFH vertical tasting.

I'll miss it too, thanks to a goddamn meeting at 10, so I'll have to wait for the replay. Surely The Voice of all places has Windows media player on its PCs?

did he mention my name? :wink:
BOS Leonard Katrina
-
Saw him on Austin City Limits once, and never stopped liking his music

Let me guess--Davefish?

I think he just said it was a suggestion "from a foghead".

No, me... I forgot to login. 8)

"Everybody Knows":
1) I totally don't remember this song in '88
2) I'm getting damn tired of it now.
5!

Actually, the Voice is a nearly all-Mac environment.

I still say Dylan's Oscar-winning "Things Have Changed" is a rip-off of "Everybody Knows" and of Mr Cohen in general.
-
I'm sick of this "Milky Way" song, too. See- this is why I didn't listen to the radio in '88, dagnabby!
4!
-
Ladies and gentlemen, the last living Icehouse fan ... Dave Morey!
I can't decide if I like Leonard Cohen's or Concrete Blonde's version of "Everybody Knows" better: Leonard seems to "get" the song more, but I just love Johnette's voice so ...
And the Church's "Under the Milky Way" is threatening to unseat "Good Thing" as the uber-Katrina.
Vertical tasting HFH, eh? Obviously the years will be 1972-1981 ... or will they?[/list]
-
BOS - George Harrison. I don't think anything else will come close... :)
-
Dave's got his mind set on Katrinas...
-
(smacking forehead)... God help me... I do remember the George Harrison song, natch. I also remember kinda thinking it was lame. I'm a bad, bad person.
3!
On the plus side- it's the best thing I've heard so far in this set.
-
BOS G n R, "Sweet Katrina of Mine"
2!
-
Heeeeeeeeeeere's Axl! predicted BOS winner.

A modest proposal for tomorrow:
1973 = The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia
1974 = The Streak
1975 = Get Dancin'
1976 = Float On
1977 = You Light Up My Life
1978 = Copacabana
1979 = I Was Made for Dancin' (ah-ah-ah-all night long)
1980 = Shakedown Street
1981 = Stars on 45
1982 = I've Never Been to Me
-
Because I don't feel like reviving a Jacko thread in Stream of Consciousness -- anyone else think Macauley Culkin is looking these days like Kid Rock with better hair?

-
Damn! I never thought about it- but he DOES look like Kid Rock w/better hair. How 'bout that!
1982 = I've Never Been to Me
Good Lord! You mean someone covered that Charlene song from 1977? Cuz I remember that one and that's bad enough.

A fine bunch o' tunes. Tho' Dave loves "Get Dancin'" too much to admit it's godawful. If it really covers those years, my money's on "Half Breed" for '73. But I'm with ya on Debbie Boone.

Charlene herself -- the song was re-released (and actually became a bigger hit) in 1982.
I was more stunned to learn that she was on the Motown label with that.

no, Charlene's version was actually a hit in '82.

And in this market, Shakedown Street would NEVER pass as a Hit From Hell--Dave would be ridden out of town on a rail (and I think it was released in 78 anyway, may have charted in '79.)

Is this Bette, For the Boys? I've never seen it.

Beaches, bub. Turn in yer gay card!
For the Boys is far more tolerable, actually.
-
At long last, a legitimate BOS for moi: "Chains of Love." Apparently Erasure's two-week residency at the Irving Plaza got *rave* reviews. I do wish I liked the new album better.
But G'n'R's gonna win, yeah.

Ah - "Wind Beneath My Wings," and alla that. Gotcha.
As you know, my membership card was rescinded a LONG time ago. Gypsy ain't got no home.
-
Dude, even I knew it was Beaches.
And good on Charlene for making cash a second time 'round on that silly song.
HM to Erasure. I didn't know about this band back in '88, either. But, I'm glad they were around.
Geez, this set won't freaking end.....
-
Second time today for "Fast Car." Gnite ladies & gents, you've been wonderful. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
(great song, just not in the mood today)
ETA: Anyone remember the "In Living Color" sketch where the woman playing Tracy Chapman writes songs based on random things she sees out her window? It was very, very well done. (And if someone's already mentioned it here, sorry.)

LOL! I have and indeed I've mentioned it back on the old board (I think). No need to apologize, though- it's hilarious. Unfortunately, it's destroyed this song for me entirely!
