Was wishing for a 70's set.
Does 30 14th bday make you 44?
-
And we're getting the Cars out of the way early.
Yes, that's how I'd interpret that.
-
And we're getting the Cars out of the way early.
Somehow an "orangeade sky" is appropriate today, at least in SoCal.
-
aaack! and Toto too!
-
Hmmm, Toto. Not exactly sending this set in a great direction so far. Hoping for some Gerry Rafferty or--dare I think it--Cheap Trick,
-
VHM Alicat Inferno, tho' I've heard this one a few too many times -- the Trammps Greatest Hits is chock full of fab tracks you haven't heard a million times.
-
The Birth of the BoomBox! This is new.
-
The Birth of the BoomBox! This is new.
I think the LAST thing I'd wanna hear on a BoomBox is Journey.
-
Not recognizing this bass groove off the bat. Hmmm--Pablo Cruise?
-
Dave is Pablo cruisin' for a bruisin'.

How about Pablo? Probably wouldn't get you beaten up.

With a Little Luck, we'll get a bustout before this is over. Oh PLEASE GAWD!

A-MEN.
So far this set has been treading the edge of Hits From Hell. Just a little punk rock or something would help immensely.
-
every track definitely not a winner baby.
-
Here's my BOS -- Hot Chocolate

Well, I'll BOS Hot Choc, "Every 1's a Winner". But it's hardly a bustout either.

Me too, except here's Bruce. Since I'm going Friday, might as well get all fired up -- BRUUUUUUUUUUCE!
-
Woo Hoo, I was hoping for something from the Boss!!!!!
-
BOS2 Broooce. It ain't no sin to be glad yer alive.
-
Brooooce! Looking forward to Friday night!

Definitely BOS material. If I hadn't already voted, this would be it. The guitar solo leading into the tenor solo is a high point.

I'm going Thursday, GA on the Floor. Should be a mob scene, but I'm really excited anyway.

Where are you sitting on Friday?
-
BOS3 the Zodiac. If you haven't seen the movie -- just out on DVD -- rent it immediately. One of the year's best.
VHM EWF, on a ship, Fantasii.
-
Mark and I are going on Thursday. We've got seats in section 106, or something like that. Oh, and BOS3 for EW&F.

Don't know yet. My sister's friend has a ticket.

Decidedly not--so far the highlights have been Hot Chocolate, Springsteen, and EWF; nary a bustout in sight.

My BOS also. These last 2 songs have definitely picked up the pace...

And I like Promises. A sad song.
AAAACK! Cut off right in the middle of Eric.

Very average -- much like Crapton's "Promises".
-
Lost the stream yet again -- but it's Crapton so I'm not gonna bitch.

I can always count on you. Even the stream knew to crap out. (just kidding, i LIKE Clapton)

Anybody hear the end? What was BOS?

Tie -- Journey and Pablo Cruise.
Whatever.

I'm giving serious thought to trying to scalp a ticket outside. Craigslist is lousy with people trying to dump extras, particularly for Thursday, so it might be easy pickin's.
'Cept my concert budget is kinda stretched right now, with Yo La Tengo and P-Spree next week, and Elvis C at the Music Hall the week after. We'll see.

Yup. My budget snapped after Bruce, BSB Sat and Sun, this weekend and Van Halen in Dec. I was reading my last issue of Rolling Stone and there was a small review of VH tour that opened I think in NC. Some guy from Modesto who flew there said it was like an effin dream. Sounds like tour is going to be mostly a sellout. My seats at HP are very decent.

I am about concerted out too. But Tool is going on sale Sunday, and my metal friends have twisted my arm...

Bonus Bruuuuuuuce -- Candy's Room
-
Even the bonus track is a frequent flyer--Bruce again, Candy's Room.
Sobering thought: this Saturday will be 27 years to the day since I first saw Bruce, in the very same building he's playing tomorrow and Friday. Yikes. I be gettin' old.

Forgive the crankypants, but there really should be a rule against bonus tracks being by an artist (and from the same LP!) we just heard in the set.

TANC --Greg on CGSS is playing their wonderful early single "Where Do We Go From Here", which sounds like it shoulda been covered by the Three Degrees.
-
1. Cars - Bye Bye Love
2. Toto - Hold the Line
3. Trammps - Disco Inferno
4. Journey - Anytime (BEST OF SET!!)
5. Pablo Cruise - Don't Want to Live Without it (BEST OF SET!!)
6. Wings - With a Little Luck
7. Hot Chocolate - Everyone's a Winner
8. Bruce Springsteen - Badlands
9. EWF - Fantasy
10. Eric Clapton - Promises
BONUS TRACK: Bruce Springsteen - Candy's Room
I think I'm with Mike on artist duplication between set and bonus track. I like Bruce and all, but the fact that he's playing a couple shows in town does not justify playing more than one song within the parameters of 10@10 and its ancillary franchises.

I think the only time I saw Bruce was Dec. 78 Winterland. There's a KSAN live broadcast tape in circulation. My favorite was his rendition of Point Blank that night, which was slightly different than the record. My cassette was ruined by some accidental demagnetizing, which caused the sound level to go up and down with every spin of the reels.

That recording is pretty widely circulated and reknowned as one of the best Springsteen boots ever--it was simulcast on several other stations around the west coast (Portland, Seattle, Sacramento, maybe Reno) so lots of folks got it. I'm sure i have it on ancient cassette--not sure if I've upgraded to CD or not, but if I have I'll get you a copy. I remember listening to it on the radio in the kitchen of the restaurant I was working at. The manager had to come back and tell us to turn it down, as the customers could hear it pretty well, but several of the cooks, waiters, and other staff were all really digging it.

Was that the Born in the USA tour? That was the last and only time I've seen him. Outside in Oakland I'm pretty sure. My old memory isn't serving too well. I missed him the last few times around.

Everyones a winner
sidenote:
I sometimes enter the contests on the KFOG site. I just heard from them that I won a $35 Cheap Pete's certificate. Supposedly comng in the mail soon. There's a Page and Plant tour poster in my garage needing a frame. Very timely.

First saw Bruce in '76 at the Palladium in NYC (a little bigger than the Warfield). Also saw him at Madison Sqaure Garden twice -- at No Nukes in '79 and again on Thanksgiving '80. Then not again until PacBell/SBC/AT&T a few summers ago.

I guess there are holes in my memory. I guess I've seen Bruce more than once. I'm not sure why I went, but I remember being at some outdoor show at Oakland too! That was when he was doing the Jimmy Cliff song "Trapped."

I'm guessing that woulda been mid-'80s, since a live version of "Trapped" ended up on the "USA for Africa" LP.

Nope, BitUSA wasn't til '84/85. In 80 he'd just released The River, and as always, did only two local shows. They sold fast, but not nearly as fast as the ones in '84.

Could have been the Oakland Stadium in '85 or he played there a few years later (88? I have holes in my memory, too) on an Amnesty Int'l tour with Peter Gabriel and others.

I was here on vacation in Sept '84 (my first-ever trip to SF) and I remember driving past a VERY long line of folks waiting to buy tix on a Sunday morning at some place (can't recall where exactly) that had Ticketron, or whatever the ticket seller of choice was back then.

Nah, not gonna do it. It's been a beater of a day, I'm heading home. Now I know I'm getting old.
Hope y'all that are going tonight (and tomorrow for that matter) see some great performances. Cheers, y'all!

I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing a review of tonight's show. Maybe Mark or Dave will post. I'm totally ready for tomorrow. In late to work, out early. Gotta do it! BSB too. I feel optimistic about Broooce making a guest appearance with Neil on Saturday.
