Title: 3 June 2010: its 1967
Post by: Wayback on June 02, 2010, 03:45:17 PM
AL's FB page reveals it'll be 1967.  Matter o' fact, Bobbie Gentry's "Ode to Billie Joe" would be date specific, "It was the third of June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day..."
Also should include the Five Americans "Western Union" as their lead singer/guitarist died a few weeks ago.  He lived out in Lodi (near Stockton) for many many years.  I'd also like some other pop: Turtles, Association, Rascals, Box Tops, Monkees, Beatles (anniv of Sgt Pepper release).

I was hoping for '67 tomorrow for just that reason -- I've no doubt AL will play Ms. Gentry.

I was thinking that too -- makes sense. Darryl asked KFOG (via FB) if someone could post the Dave Morey Sgt Pepper picture.

A message to YOU, Rudy!  the orig version. BOS2 (2nd time AL has played this, iirc)

I thought I remembered Dave playing it once, tho' the shraytabase says no.  Maybe AL has played it in the past year?  Bob has played it multiple times on the Drive, fo' sho'.

Re: "Ode to BJ", I remember back in the day when Dave did My 3 Songs at 9am, it was indeed a June 3rd one morning, and he played "Pride in the Name of Love" followed by (I think) "Papa was a Rolling Stone" and I just *KNEW* the 3rd song had to be "Ode to BJ" and I kept calling and calling and getting a busy signal. And it was indeed song #3 and nobody got the connection or the song.

Oddly, he never played the song on 10@10 afaik.

6/3/10- Thursday-It was the 3rd of June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day in...1967!!

(proper introductions today courtesy of The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band-Intro/Outro Song)

 1.  Beatles-Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band/With a Little Help From My Friends
(News: "Frisco" hippies)
 2.  Dandy Livingstone- Rudy, A Message To You
 3.  Moby Grape- Omaha
(Movie: Valley Of The Dolls)
 4.  Jefferson Airplane- She Has Funny Cars
 5.  Buffalo Springfield- Rock and Roll Woman
(TV: The Avengers)
 6.  Lulu- To Sir, With Love
(Movie: Junglebook)
 7.  Neil Diamond- Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon
 8.  Bobbie Gentry- Ode To Billie Joe (B.O.S!!-& date specific;)
(News: Joan Baez-Vietnam protests)
 9.  Monkees- She
10.  The Stone Poneys (w/Linda Ronstadt)- Different Drum
(TV: The Prisoner)

I didn't quite catch on this morning that "The Intro and the Outro" wasn't actually counted as a song. "Ode to BJ" wins BOS and I could not be more thrilled.

So if one were to count the Bonzos tune (which we should) and the SPLHCB/WALHFMF two-fer (which are in the strictest sense two songs that should never be played separately--at least not the Beatles' renditions), then we got 12 songs today. I'll take that.

Thanks in advance.

Just catching up with this thread now - DAMN!  I could hardly have imagined a better '67 set for my tastes (except that I'd choose a different Monkees song - never liked how Peter sounded on the "She" bkgd harmonizing).  And two TANC moments for me: 1) The night before I left, my young friend Andy came over and I introduced him to several Surrealistic Pillow tracks, starting with "She Has Funny Cars."  As a self-taught songwriter, he learned a specific style from a specific set of influences, and I've been having fun expanding that set.  2) While in Meadville, PA, this weekend for my class reunion, I bought this LP from the town Market House flea market:
