Van the Man, we're in clover

This resonates with me because of the latest news from my extended family.  One or two of you have met my cousin Andy, same age as me, and we just got an email from his mom, my aunt Gail yesterday with the news that she is geting married in 17 days in Hawaii, at the age of 70.  Her intended is a "retired Franciscan priest (after 30 years), disabled Vietnam vet & a PhD in clinical psychology."

None of us had a clue, but I hope they'll "be in clover".

Stones, movin' like a stud, salivate like a Pavlov's dog

Everytime I hear Mick pronounce b-a-s-s like the fish and not like base, I think of PDQ Bach & his Bass-the-fish drum.

Wow! Sounds like your aunt's intended has had an interesting life, to say the least. Hope they can find some happiness together in their "golden years" and both stay healthy to enjoy them.

Ha!  One of my fellow deejays at my college station used to play "Rescue Me" by Fontella Bass and mispronounce her name as "Fontella Base". (yes, he was a muscian).

This is awesome, a song you don't hear all that often.  It rocks real hard, with only minimal psychedelia, and plenty of funky goodness.

Not so far. I suspect not -- it's a 10-year-old book (at least) and I think we'd've heard something sooner if he'd revealed himself.

It's NTM, but I don't really understand why the old events of the 60s are captured in it.  Weird.

This was all over the radio the summer of '71. And is an obvious forerunner of some of Dave's audio montages (Think Time Has Come Today megamix.

The events of the '60's weren't that old in '71, the Vietnam War and civil strife still raged on.

Indeed, the first time I heard this was one of the great music-related "WTF?" moments of my life.  I loved it, tho' over time there was a lot of discussion of whether it was maudlin/exploitative and whether Top 40 stations should even be playing it alongside Donny Osmond and Rare Earth.

The segue from the Tom Clay tune to the WW clip was pretty abrupt--iirc, there was some more of What the World Needs Now that we didn't hear.

My old housemate Rich in Taiwan would get all sentimental as the holidays drew near each year, and ask if we wouldn't all like to sing some Christmas carols:  "let's start with Joy To The World, ready?  1, 2, 3...Jeremiah was a bullfrog!"

Veruca, sweetheart, angel...

I'm in the minority, I know, but I think it's quite an overrated movie; then again I was 16 in '71 and therefore too old for "children's movies".  But seeing it on TV a couple years ago I was struck how awful the songs are.

OMG! VHM "Albert Flasher". He was a workshop owner... and?

Speaking of "all over the radio"...I remember being in sixth grade and being able to turn on the radio and hear this song within about 15 minutes, any time of the day. God bless Top 40 radio.

No, that was the complete "long" version. I believe there was a radio edit that ended with music.

I've lost count, but I suspect you're right--and '71 sets tend to be pretty short. And I think Dave has used R&RS to close sets before. Great set though.

definitely seemed like a not-by-the-numbers 10@10.  I didn't like it all, but found it interesting.  Freedom really took me back.  I remember a motorcycle ride to Santa Barbara (where I was a student) and having that song run through my head almost all the way!
