logging on to CG early, just in time for EJ, "Are You Ready For Love?" from the fab Thom Bell sessions.
-
yay! Greg sitting in for Dean on the CG Jukebox.
and a comedy alert for Beej -- CG is premiering a new comedy-oriented Late Show today (2-5pm Pacific time) with a new (and presumably funny) host.
-
here's one I've never heard: Peter Skellern (who?) doing "You're a Lady" which was once a flop single for Tony Orlando. Big hit in the UK in '72, apparently.
-
WLNG Nugget o' the Day: Cher! "The Way Of Love"!!
ETA: Oh by cracky, it's Neil Sedacky: "Run Samson Run", his country-tinged ode to the biblical muscleman. No wonder Neil & Elton became fast friends...
-
Lost gem on CG: "Forget Me Not", martha & the vandellas from '71, a Vietnam-era "you're going off to war, i'll wait for you" tune that didn't do much in the states.
-
Marianne Faithfull, "Ballad of Lucy Jordan". Wow!
-
WLNG Nugget o' the Day: Free Movement, "I've Found Someone of My Own".
HM: Bettye Swan, "Make Me Yours".
-

!!!!!

Marianne Faithfull, "Ballad of Lucy Jordan". Wow!
Now there's a song I wish I'd heard!
-
Wed 8/24: CG's Greg plays "A Love Like Yours (Don't Come Knockin Every Day)" a rare Ike & Tina track from '66. I have never heard this!
-
OMG! John Denver, "Annies Song" -- I haven't heard this on the radio in a gazillion years...
-
Lordy! Greg is promising "Mull of Kintyre" in the next half-hour.
ETA: didn't happen. Maybe tomorrow
WLNG Nugget o' the Day: Marvelettes, "My Baby Must Be a Magician".
-
Thurs: Well, Greg never did play "Mull of Kintyre" but he did play the Seekers, "Morningtown Ride", a lovely little gem.
-
My 2 hours of WLNG kicks off with... Captain & Tenille, "Muskrat Love". I'm singin' and jingin' a jango...
-
WLNG Nugget o' the Day: Free Movement, "I've Found Someone of My Own".
Isn't that the most bizarre dynamic for a song ever? They're singing so emphatically yet so blase-ly at the same time, and I'm attracted to it in the same way that I'm attracted to outsider art. Can someone make some sense of this for me?
-
Pre-CGSS, Paul Coyte plays the "dirty" version of CDB, "Devil Went Down to GA"
-
Greg sounds pre-recorded today... it's "Bank Holiday Weekend". But the tunes have been just fine.
-
Kool & the Gang, "Misled", or "Miss Lead" as I always called it (cause she's "heavy as a Chevy"). She hooked up with Mr Wood and they made lots of little pencils.
-
James Brown--Super Bad!
"Jump back! I wanna kiss myself!"
They might have done the prerecording just to give Greg a night off if he's been subbing for Dean all week.
-
Sweeney's playing a song by the lead singer from The Darkness under the name British Whale. I think Queen hired the wrong guy when they got Paul Rodgers for their reunion (not that there's a lot of disagreement about that)--this guy's got some amazing pipes.

I heartily concur. I can only assume the Darkness dude couldn't commit to a tour, whereas Paul Rodgers had, er, a lot of free time.
I believe in a (crazy little) thing called love...

It's a cover of an old Sparks song, done with the band's seal of approval. I haven't heard either version.
