Happy July!

pre-set: the Rod Stewart version of "Street Fighting Man" which I hadn't heard in ages.

Yeah, I was kind of bowled over by that too.  Who thought then that he'd move on to the Great American Songbook from that?

One of the few ELO songs I can get behind.

I want more Soap!

Last nite's launch of LOGO featured a brief history of gay people on TV; Billy Crystal's character on Soap was prominently mentioned.

Just made a side trip to the logo website.  Dig their motto:  "The Evolution will be Televised."

A man's gotta have a motto...

Even the tepid coke-fest of "Soul Man" can't shake my mood: In the past 12 hours, I have received my backlog of unemployment checks (my evil ex-boss, the BMMB, had lived up to his sobriquet by contesting my claim), and the Voice reached an agreement with management that preserves its health insurance AS IS.  So no strike.  (Which means I'll miss today's Dave set, as I'll be at work.)

Damn, July's off to a good start.

I can get behind "El Dorado."  And often do: those things break down a LOT.
Title: VHM, Tom Petty

I think this may be one of the last 8-tracks I ever bought...

Sorry, Bob -- I'd MUCH rather hear Sid's "My Way" than Tom Petty.  That snide remark was a knife to the heart.

YAY!

That's great news.  Hey, would NewTimes allow you to transfer from the Voice to the SF Weekly or EastBay Express?

Uh-oh, the inevitable Cars.

The only 8-tracks I ever bought:

ABBA, Super Trouper
Barry Manilow, Even Now
Air Supply, The One That You Love

Don't remember the order, though.

The Voice isn't owned by New Times.  The Voice is owned by Village Voice Media, Inc., which also owns the LA Weekly and a handful of other alt-weeklies.  Totally different head.

They used to be, didn't they? Why did I think that?

Ooh, BOS to the good Mr. Rafferty and "Right Down the Line," the most relaxed and reassuring song I know this side of Climax Blues Band's "I Love You."
