I got that too, and it made me a little weepy. Like DM before her, she's not afraid to share some of herself with her audience, and it makes for good radio.

I am expecting good things.

"Oh the things i could tell you -- oh, you don't know the HALF of it!"

"Life on Mars" -- live version?  Lovely.

This is a long one, started late -- 10:15 and still on song 1!

Will be sad to leave at 10:30 for a meeting. Might have to listen tonight (though I never do).

Bowie smacks down Babs!

and then gives his remembrances of Marc Bolan leading into a live "Rebel Rebel"/studio version mash-up.

I've been singing this song to myself the last couple days. I wish I could write a song with a riff like that.

Five Years

This one always gives me chills. Another BOS.

(This one is off the Bowie at the Beeb album, too, I believe.)

ah, didn't sound like the Ziggy version  I admit I don't know Bowie's albums very well. I know so many of his songs, but I never owned any of his records until much later.   I would like to hear which of his records you like, how they rank.

I'd put Young Americans up there as a listenable fave. Those songs are pretty accessible and I have to thank Dave Morey for revealing "Somebody Up There Likes Me" as I'm pretty sure it was on 10at10 that I first heard it -- or where it first made an impression.

"Starman" is a nice closer, if we're indeed at the end.  Let all the children BEW-gay!

I've lost count, but this may well be the closer. On the other hand, I'd not be surprised if she slipped in one or two extras. This is another case where making any dent in his body of work in 10 songs is damn near impossible.

Totally agree with you on Young Americans. That album is excellent, front to back, and so many of those songs (Right, Fascination, Can You Hear Me, and the one you mentioned, Somebody Up There Likes Me) never get played. All you ever hear are the title track and Fame.

There's not much in his 70s output that's not worth checking into. I'd start with Hunky Dory and just go forward from there.  Ziggy is great, but I think Aladdin Sane is just as good, and there are some great things on Diamond Dogs, too. Station to Station is excellent, as is Heroes (and not just for the title track -- the entire first side is amazing, and side two, while more experimental, is a great listen as well) and the same could be said for Low. And his covers album, Pinups, is great, too. Lodger, not one I've got as much love for but there are a few good songs there as well (Look Back in Anger, Boys Keep Swinging, DJ).

As you can see, I'm a little biased. I'll see if I can come up with a ranking later on, but I'd maybe start with Hunky Dory and Station To Station (since you already know YA).

1/12/16 - Tuesday!  It's a David Bowie Memorial

Nos. 4, 7, 8,  and 9 appear to be bust-outs; nos. 2 and 5 are first appearances for the live versions.

I'm gobsmacked to discover we've never heard the studio version of "China Girl" on 10@10!

ETA: apologies; I edited whenI thought I was quoting. So if someone could re-post the setlist, that'd be great. Mea maxima culpa...

Heard the entire set while driving.  Got choked up with AL's intro.  And this was by far the best Bowie set by any of the 10@10s/9@9s.

Wakeman did a lot of session work, it would seem, around London in the 70s -- he was on Madman Across the Water, Electric Warrior, a Cat Stevens album or two, and lots of others. Not to mention Yes and the Strawbs, of whom he was a member.
