50 years ago today Chubby Checker's "The Twist" was released (first performed at the Rainbow Club in Wildwood, NJ).  It became a worldwide dance craze and the only record to hit #1 in two separate years ('60 and '62).  He performed it today at Philadelphia City Hall with 1,000 others:

Yesterday, 7/26, for the first time onstage in almost 12 years, prog rockers Emerson, Lake & Palmer -namely vocalist/bassist Greg Lake, keyboardist Keith Emerson and drummer Carl Palmer- reunited for a one-off 40th anniv concert, headlining the High Voltage Festival in Victoria Park, London. Here's video evidence of that reunion, fan-filmed footage of "Karn Evil 9" originally from ELP's 1973 album 'Brain Salad Surgery' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNBbL9gKpsA

one of the members of Sonia Dada (remember them?) -- who happens to be a gazillionaire because his family owns Hyatt Hotels (!) -- is now making movies:

Interesting!  Sonia Dada also resonates in the current Hot 100: country artist Jarrod Niemann covered one of their songs ("Lover, You Don't Treat Me Good No More"), retitled it "Lover, Lover," and crossed over into the Top 40 with it.  It's still on the charts now.

I'll have to seek that out -- I've always thought there are lots of songs that could be countrified and become big C&W hits, but the Nashville songwriting community is rather cliquish and they don't cotton to covers of pop tunes, especially as singles. It happens, but not as often as it oughta. That first Sonia Dada album was *huge* on KFOG at the time and a personal fave of mine.

I can see Niemann making your year-end best-of, if you keep such things.  The Nashville insularity is an unfortunate thing, I totally agree.

That was pleasant.

The number 1 thing I love about Hammer is "Hammer pants."  But that's just me.
