And on a related topic, the woman in Ent Weekly who replaced Dalton Ross on the "What to Watch" pages (her name escapes me) has officially declared that The Simpsons "sucks" this season.  Any thoughts on that?

What is she watching instead?  Desperate Fucking Housewives?

It was just a brief comment on her part but I'm curious if this is a common feeling among Simps-o-philes. Maybe Beej can tell us what the folks at TWP are saying.

Personally I think the writing is a bit... off. Strikes me as: they've gotten newer, younger writers who aren't quite into the rhythm. They seem to be trying harder to be both more "balanced" (red state/blue state) and more South Park-ish.  But I'd hardly say it "sucks".

Ooh!  Some of y'all are gonna wish you'd gotten up early: Christine McVie's solo hit, "Got a Hold On Me."  Haven't heard this in ages.  Her usual understated elegance.  The more I think about it, the more I think I'd put her in my Top Ten Female Rock Voices pantheon.

Do they give a hint what the next day's year will be? or is it a "surprise"? I'll be early tomorrow, for sure.

I don't know HOW they're able to bang out an episode on a currently hot topic so quickly (and so brilliantly), but last nite they took on the Terry Schiavo fiasco (Schiasco?) and it was just genius. It'll be repeated tonight at 10.

That was the one thing I wanted to eat while we were back there that I didn't get to. Bagels, rugelach, pizza, egg cream, pastrami, steak frites, got all o' that, but didn't get a papaya dog.

Whoever figured out that papaya was good on hot dogs is some kinda genius.

no no no -- the papaya's not on the dogs, it's a fruit drink (a la Orange Julius, if you're familiar with that). The hot dogs are a bonus, as it were. Cheap and excellent -- all beef, the kind that "pop" when you take that first bite...mmmmmm...

BTW, I looked up chuffed today. Double meaning? I'm confused.

Maybe I was thinking of the wrong word?  I thought "can't be chuffed" = "can't be bothered."

Anyway, I hope you land a new situation soon.  If it's any encouragement, the Voice has reaffirmed its commitment to bringing me on full-time as soon as there's an opening and have given me a handsome raise to tide me over in the meantime.
