before the election stuff kicks in, doing the Motown Monday thing on KHUM. Slow Dancing to Heatwave's "Always and Forever"
-
DJ Marilynn ending her show of spoooky soul tunes with a very soulful, gospel tinged version of Cat Stevens' Moonshadow. Now this is def. a new one on me.
Btw, KPOO now has a photo gallery page up so you can see what your fave KPOO jock looks like. Judge is younger than I'd have guessed.

Now Judge just rocked a tune I'm sure I haven't heard since probably 1979 at the latest: AWB's Queen of My Soul, and it was the l-o-o-o-o-o-o-ng version!!! Nice!!!

Sorry I missed that one. I've been in & out of the car, but it sounded like Judge was having his usual stellar afternoon. Highlight for me: Denroy Morgan's "I'll Do Anything for You", late '81 soul hit that never really crossed over. And it's always a thrill to hear InDeep's "Last Nite A DJ Saved My Life". And now it's his weekly tribute to SOLAR records, the Whispers "Some Kinda Lover" sounded fine -- another one I hadn't heard since it was a hit.

The woman who follows Judge on KPOO is also doing a Halloween-themed show, starting with "I Scare Myself" (the Dan Hicks original).
BTW I meant to mention Joel Selvin's show last nite, which featured 2 "official bootlegs", live LPs released only to radio stations. The first was a Nils Lofgren set recorded in the Bay Area sometime mid-'70s that sounded great. "Back It Up", "Keith Don't Go", stuff like that. And then he played Lofgren doing his ode to the Washington Bullets (no, this wasn't the Clash song with that title -- this was a fan's tribute to the basketball team, new to me and quite the rarity). Next it was Southside Johnny live at NYC's Bottom Line circa '76 -- complete with a guest appearance by Ronnie Spector on "You Mean So Much To Me Baby". THAT was a treat!
OMG! now the KPOO woman is playing Louis Prima & Keely Smith, "Old Black Magic"!

As I remember, a staple on KSAN, and really hot stuff. I would certainly like to get a copy of that!

VIP's "Empire State Soul Hour" is doing another show revolving around the new Rhino R&B box. Ssssssssmokin!
-
The TSU Toronados -- aka the backup band on Archie Bell & the Drells' "Tighten Up". Live'n'learn!
-
OMGWTF -- Lulu's on this Rhino box: her version of "Feelin' Alright" complete with Memphis horns and Duane Allman helping out.
-
ReeRee with a rare alternate take of "Rock Steady".
-
"Help Me Make Up My Mind", an obscure answer record to "Can I Change My Mind". Damn!
-
thank gawd for KCDX! Nilsson, the loooong version of "Jump Into the Fire". Spectacular.
-
wow, Eagles' fab "Midnight Flyer".
-
OMGWTFLOL! Peter Frampton's English White Boy rendition of "Signed Sealed & Delivered" -- haven't heard this since the '70s.
-
Nitty Griity Dirt Band with help from
Ms Ronstadt Nicollette Larson, "Make A Little Magic".
"a boy could get pneumonia sittin' next to you"
-
hope Mark's 'CDX-ing: April Wine, "Sign of the Gypsy Queen"
-
I'm listening to WZZN in Chicago, one of those "Real Oldies" stations. Music mix not bad; extra points for the Barry Manilow live in-studio appearance I heard about an hour ago. And here's Derek's "Cinnamon" which I haven't heard in ages.
-
Blue, blue, electric blue: Capital Gold outros with "Sound + Vision" in anticipation of the Soul Spectrum -- which I'll be listening to for 30 minutes before heading to work.

Nah, he faded out after about 4 to have Dinner With Donna (and Gershwin). And now, the birth of House: "I Love Music."

Hoo Lawd! it's where the happy people go!
We have a CD at the Gym -- a "20th Anniv Mix" from some club or other that starts with this, segs to "I Love the Nitelife" and gets better from there. I'll borrow it for our next gathering.

I haven't set foot in a gym in months. Too busy eatin' salted peanuts out da can.
-
wow, I like this very cool remix of "Ain't No Sunshine".
-
on to KRSH Soul Patrol: Esquires, "Get On Up". We gonna do the monkey... the Philly Dog too!
-
Ike & Tina's not-heard-often-enuf cover of Sly's "I Want To Take You Higher".
-
JB when you touch me I can't stand mahself! John Lurie ripped off the riff from this song and built hs score for Get Shorty around it.
-
OMG! "I Was Checkin' Out, She Was Checkin' In". The cheater is cheated upon. Biblical retribution!
-
yay for Gloria Jones, the orig "Tainted Love"!
ETA: I did not know this -- Ms Jones and Marc Bolan had a son. She was in (and survived) the car crash in which Bolan was killed.

Indeed: Rolan Bolan (seriously!) played college baseball with a former colleague of mine (who's been too nice over the years to be called a cow orker).

Ike & Tina's not-heard-often-enuf cover of Sly's "I Want To Take You Higher".
which, oddly, charted a couple rungs higher than Sly's. (undeservedly, I might add; Tina's trying, but that's a wretchedly muddy production Ike gave the group to work with, and the drumming is dull dishwater.)
-
Back to CGSS: Fonda Rae's orig version of "Touch Me (All Night Long)", covered (and made a bigger hit) by Cathy Dennis.
-
OMGWTFLOL! Barbara Acklin's "Am I The Same Girl" (aka "Soulful Strut").
-
over to VIP's Beach Music show: Johnny Bristol, hangin' on in with his sweet virgin of the world.
-
One of JJ's gems on KPOO tonite: Jermaine Jackson, "That's How Love Goes", from '72.
-
Little Steven opens his show tonite with the Flamin' Groovies, shakin' some action.
