YEE-HAW! This here's Buckaroo Beej! I ride the cyber plains & prairies, a'lookin for good (or stupid) gossip to share with y'all!
I done found this here on the Defamer website by way of Fametracker.
It's 2 scans from a Mexican tabloid and it concerns 2 of Hollywood's hottest senioritas...

Obviously, this cain't be true because that would be, like, putin' near the hottest thing I could imagine- and I gots a goood imagination.

She wasn't grabbin' her ass -- she was... uh... helping her down the ramp. Or something. Yeah, that's it!

I'm sure that's her story. But it looks like a pretty deliberate ass-grab to me.

So, is Penelope Cruz still "dating" Tom Cruise- or did he shave that beard?
-
"i don't know what to- i don't know what to say!"
(a kewpie doll to anyone who can name the origin of that quote.)
that's 2 durned hot.

Make it a 3-way with CZ-J and I'm there.

Yeah, this works for me. If this were a political advertisement I'd be all, like, "I'm Beej and I approve this lesbian relationship."
Adding C-Z J is just overkill. I mean, by all means- do it! But, geez. I'm trying to work here, people! :D

Hey Alicat, help us out with the translation:
"Que tia tan mas acolchonadita!"
I know enough that "son o no son?" means "are they or aren't they?"

Howdy! Buckaroo Beej rides again with this photo of Michael Jackson responding to fans outside his hospital window:
Typically, Michael is heard telling fans who scream "I/We love you!" that he "loves them more".
That? Is one creepy image.

Hell, I don't know. I read it fast and thought it was: what an Aunt, such a big alcoholic. Which isn't right but my brain isn't right either. Not sure I logged in or lurked at all today. Too much work sh!%. Don't want to post details publicly in case wrong people lurk. Suffice it to say, I may have lots of time on my hands soon and be logging in from home. :?
-
Ali dear - my condolences on the workplace hassles. Lawd knows everyone's heard me vent about mine. I hope the SF job market has recovered to the point where if you need to make a break, you can land something new and rewarding within weeks (allowing for some recuperation time, of course).
-
oh, salma hayek was seen with orlando bloom (i think?!?!?) at the chateau de blah-de-blah in l.a. over the weekend. uma thurman was there, too, but she's dating the manager of the chateau de blah-de-blah, so that's no big surprise.
i think 'the motorcycle diaries' guy was with salma and bloom, too.
hang in there, ali.
-
Sorry to hear aboout the work-madness, Alicat.
I had a meeting today at 10am and couldn't play. I missed Donovan's "wear Your Love Like heaven", which bums me out, man. I could have really used that today myself.
-
Suffice it to say, I may have lots of time on my hands soon and be logging in from home. :?
Sorry to hear you are suffering strife at the workplace--it's sucky but what can you do? Start circulating your curriculum vitae to any and all quarters, that's what. There are jobs out there, ya just gotta network and find them.
Considering how much of our time we spend working, it's no good to have a job you don't dig. Finding a new one last year has made me a much happier person.
And in my recent review (which was quite positive to my relief), nothing was said about time spent at non-work-related websites, so I am thrilled that, as long as all else is under control, I may surf at will (within reason).
-
Thanks all. Negotiations begin at 9am Tuesday. I gave a request "demand" letter to the COO at 5pm on Friday. If they want me to stay and perform two FT jobs for at least 6 months, they'll be paying for it. If not, they'll probably be paying me to leave before the end of the week.
I'm definitely out there scouting new opportunities. Money is not my priority. A minimum amount is needed but I really just want to be happy and have a pleasant place to be. No heavy demands. Ability to listen to music and pop in and out of here is up on my list too.

Just occurred to me that today was push-comes-to-shove day for Alicat, who was conspicuously absent from these confines. Hope it went well.

Still employed but can't say for how long. I heard Dave say they'd be at the Cliff House or somewhere on March 11 and I'd rather be there than at work. Maybe.....

Will I never remember to log in!?

Howdy, pardners! Buckaroo Beej with this fresh pic of Michael Jackson arriving at court 5 mins past his deadline..

Note the pee-jama bottoms. Yeeeah, Michael- yer back hurt. Riiight.

It's too bad that secret agent movie thing he was supposedly doing never got off the ground.

That said, someone should really take advantage of the fact that "Los Del Rio" and "Captain EO" rhyme.

She probably so tanked she thought it WAS Vin Diesel.
PS: And I'm also "ewing" Lindsey's ass-tat. Tattoos are SO '90s.

Hey Beej -- didja know Drea deMatteo is hot'n'heavy with Waylon Jennings' son? His name is (ahem) "Shooter". LOL!
from Daily Dish:
"Actress Drea De Matteo showed her romance with country star Shooter Jennings is very much back on again at the CMT Music Awards Monday night by interrupting the singer's presentation speech with a lengthy kiss.
The couple strolled hand in hand onto the stage at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville, TN to present the Collaborative Video of the Year award to Brad Paisley, and promptly left the audience speechless as they halted proceedings to show their affection."
-
Indeed I saw that item in "Daily Dish" today.
For a guy named "Shooter"- he's pretty lucky!

A late-breaking news item: Britany confirms what the gossip goons have been saying for weeks: she's pregneato...
BRITNEY SPEARS IS PREGNANT
Britney Spears has revealed what might be Hollywood's worst-kept secret: She's pregnant.
Publicist Sonia Muckle confirmed the singer's pregnancy Tuesday but declined to provide additional details.
In a posting on her Web site, Spears told fans that she and husband, Kevin Federline, were expecting their first child together. The couple were married in September.
"There are reports that I was in the hospital this weekend, and Kevin and I just want everyone to know that all is well. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers."
Magazines have speculated for weeks that the 23-year-old singer was pregnant, noting her expanding waistline. She's previously expressed a desire to start a family.
Federline has two children with ex-girlfriend actress Shar Jackson. (From AP)
And here's a picture of Shooter Jennings & Drea de Matteo

My god. That guy's uglier than a bucket of armpits. Now Waylon was nothing to write home about either, but assuming his mom is Jessi Colter, he should have gotten some looks from her side of the gene pool.
On the other hand, it doesn't seem to have held him back none.

Good gawd he IS fugly. Waylon musta whacked him with the ugly stick. He looks like the bastard child of Cheech Marin and Emily Latella. But he has a really big, er, bank account.

Where did you get that 'bucket of armpits' colloquialism? I love stuff like that, & yours is my new second favorite, right behind "He's so greedy he'd steal a hot stove & come back for the smoke."
Speaking of FUGLY, did anyone catch American Idol tonight? Contestants were to sing songs from their birth years & two happened to pick Hall & Oates compilations, so they were seated front row for the VIP treatment. Darryl looked great, just a healthy, older version of his own self. On the other hand, John should f*cking sue the ASS off of his plastic surgeon. He looked like a f*cking ET that had squeezed into a body three sizes too small. I could have sworn bodily fluids were seeping out around the edges. Yuucck!

By the way, Mshray, I enjoyed your "defense" of The Morning Show team today (4/26) re talking about American Idol too much. "I wanted to talk about John's crappy plastic surgery..." HA-HA!
TOPIC: John Lennon may be known as a pacifist but his son, Sean, is a bit more aggressive. Check it out (from 'Daily Dish', 4/26/05)
LENNON PICKED FIGHT AT BRITISH BEACH CONCERT
John Lennon's son Sean reportedly tried to start a fight with a punk rock bassist during an appearance at Britain's All Tomorrow's Parties festival this weekend.
The son of the Beatles legend, who was joined by his mother Yoko Ono at Pontin's holiday resort in England's Camber Sands, allegedly took exception to the Jayne County and the Electric Chairs bassist because he was sporting a mohawk.
The pair almost came to blows before security at the venue stepped in and defused the situation.
Singer Jayne County says, "It angers me that Sean Lennon, son of John -- a member of the Beatles, who I love -- can be so drunk and narrow-minded to pick a fight with my bass player because he has a mohawk.
"He was surrounded by girls and thought my bass player was competition so he started picking on him. He was out of order and was slagging him, saying he was old and had a crap haircut.
"I think he's insecure. Security had to step in and separate them or blood would have been spilled. The gig went brilliantly but Sean Lennon spoiled it for me. He's a loser."
Or, y'know- it was a really lame haircut & Sean was just doing his part for the betterment of hair-kind.

Just goes to show: just cuz yer dad was John Lennon doesn't mean you're a decent fellow. Come to think of it, at times, neither was John.

Wait for it.

Dude, that was 3 musicians ago! (just kidding, but she has dated her share of musicians & actors, including Jim Carrey). I was kinda hoping she'd go from Jack White to Jack Black. And then maybe a sapphic hookup with Macy Gray...

Kylie Minogue has breast cancer:

But if it's any consolation, she's a tiny, tiny woman, so it can't be THAT much cancer.

In other health gossip- Bob "Gilligan" Denver just had heart bypass surgery....
DENVER HAS HEART BYPASS SURGERY
Veteran actor Bob Denver is recuperating after undergoing quadruple heart bypass surgery.
The 70-year-old actor, who starred in the 1960s TV show "Gilligan's Island," had the surgery recently after a check-up revealed problems, according to his agent Mike Eisenstadt.
He is now recovering at his West Virginia home.
It was probably from all the stress of having Skipper yell at him all the time. See, if he were stil Maynard G. Krebs ("WORK??!!") he would have been more relaxed.
Get well soon, Bob!

"Bush said that he did not think photos of imprisoned Saddam Hussein clad only in his underwear would incite further anti-American sentiment in Iraq"
But 2 days ago he was berating Newsweek (part of the evil liberal media, unlike the Murdoch-owned Sun) for the Koran-flushing story. Ah, hypocrisy...
Meanwhile, Saddam: Brown trouser don't make it! Oh wait, that's "brown shoes". Never mind.

Liberal pinko that I am, I think Newsweek's story was probably correct, and the PTB needed a fall guy in response to the anti-American sentiment. "Oh, we would NEVER do such a thing." Go ask Sluggo England what she thinks of that.

I think Ayala herself thinks she's already IN the TV movie.
Didja notice how dolled up she was for her court appearance a week or so ago? She had more war-paint on than an Apache brave. She's wearing prison garb but she's acting like she's strolling down the red carpet at the Oscar's preshow. A-mazing.

Oh, yeah- I forgot about the Goldschlager. That stuff'll kick yer ass.

Well, Jon Carroll -- a liberal pinko in his own right -- has another take in today's column.
(And, speaking of that, let me give you a data point about the whole Newsweek-Guantanamo thing. When we were in Islamic northern Nigeria in 1995, we heard a story about a Christian American woman who was accused by a politically ambitious mullah of using the Koran as toilet paper. The leader of the family who had taken the woman in defended her; a crowd broke in, beheaded him, and carried his head around on a stick. According to our host, a university professor, the Koran-and-toilet-paper story is basically the Muslim equivalent of "Jews eat Gentile babies during Passover" slander. (So, I am guessing that Newsweek was sold a bill of goods. I'm thinking a sting operation of some sort. And, oh look, it's Michael Isikoff, Kenneth Starr's best media buddy. Oh, that karma).

I'm betting on the woman who plays Karen's maid on Will & Grace playing the finger lady.
A-mazing.
Beej, I really wish you hosted a program on E! for points like this. I mwah you.

Did anyone catch the exchange on the Morning Show about her, yesterday I think? Apparently Peter Finch thinks she's hot (in a strictly married-guy-watching-from-afar kind of way. Apparently he goes for the skanky type (no offense to Mrs. Finch, who I've never seen.) Nevertheless....

Speaking of Paris Hilton- another celeb has cellphone issues- and it's none other than Gaz's favorite novelty singer!
BUFFETT'S STOLEN PHONE CAUSES CHAOS FOR STARS
Hollywood stars are frantically changing their phone numbers after country singer Jimmy Buffett's cell phone fell into the wrong hands.
The star, 57, accidentally left his phone in a Florida restaurant on May 29, and although the device has been recovered, the memory card that holds numbers belonging to stars such as Michael Douglas, George Clooney, Harrison Ford and Bill Gates, is still missing.
The U.S. Secret Service were alerted when former President Bill Clinton received a crank call.
Jason Martin, a bellboy at the Brisa Atlantica restaurant in Delray Beach, found the phone outside the venue, and police believe it was a friend of Martin who contacted Clinton.
Martin, 22, says, "We were sitting around smoking weed and scrolling down the list on Jimmy's phone, going 'Wow!'"
When one of the singer's staff called the phone to retrieve it, Martin became agitated and refused to give it up -- even after being offered a $200 reward.
He says, "He said I was a thief and a liar. Then I called (Buffett's wife) Jane's number, and she was nasty to me. So I told them I wouldn't give it back."
Martin has since been fired by his employer.
Buffett fumes, "It's a person's worst nightmare."

I guess Jimmy's never experienced any real pain. I can think of innumerable experiences that would be worse nightmares. Like, I don't know, having your arm ripped off by an angry grizzly bear or, *cheap shot alert!* listening to Jimmy Buffet for more than a few minutes.

LOL! I was waiting for one of you to say that!
ETA: I'm not so sure this story is all that accurate. If somebody cranked-called Clinton, the Secret Service would have arrested them by now. At least I think they would have.

I'm still in disbelief: people generally don't cop to smoking weed in interviews, and even if they do, journos generally don't seize on details like that unless they're key to the story (or the celeb).
That Jimmy Buffett has the need to have Bill Clinton and Bill Gates on speed-dial is pretty amusing, though. Only celebrity I've ever had in my cell phone was Henry Rollins, and I'm sure that wasn't his home #. (And Sean Kelly of the Samples, if he rises to celeb level -- any Samples fans in the hizzle?)

A New Beard For Tom:

I called in & discussed this with Dave & the gang & very surprisingly they played the whole thing back. More details after the Drive's 10@10, but Ali heard it and called me up.
So I said, "I have a comment about Tom Cruise, but maybe you can't replay my call without getting sued. For a lot of my gay friends it's an absolute article of faith that Tom Cruise is living a double lifestyle, and Mimi Rodgers, Nicole Kidman & now young Katie Holmes are just a bunch of high profile beards."
Dave: "Yeah I have a lot of friends who say the same thing. It's always somebody heard something..."
Me: "'My ex-boyfriend's former lover was on the set and had an encounter..."
Dave: "Yeah, exactly."
Irish Greg: (and this is the part I was sure they'd edit out) "Well, we heard it first hand from one his directors..."
Peter: (something unclear about Nicole Kidman, and after hearing it then & on the replay I still can't tell if he meant they had Nicole on & she also said something, or if something was said about her, like Tom was her beard, too). Then he said something about how famous people get all kinds of rumors spread about them.
Me: "And I heard the exact same thing about Luke Perry from 90210..."
Dave: "My friends said that, too...."
Me: "Except in this case it was 'My brother slept with Luke Perry'."
Greg: something about Cruise having been in denial for years about these rumors...
Me: "Well he's proven to be very good about getting people sued if they say anything in public."
Dave & Greg voiced general agreement with this.
And then I said thanks & they said thanks & I got off the line. I figured they wouldn't air this, but they did a few minutes later. They left in all the juicy stuff, but edited out any talk of lawsuits. Then Peter & Dave continued a bit:
Peter: "The same thing happens to single quarterbacks in the NFL...(long pause & I swear I could see him almost saying Steve Young & Jeff Garcia's names)...uh...why is that Dave?"
Dave: "Don't ask me, I've got enough gay men in my life.
...Just KIDDING!"
(at which point I totally cracked up.)
So, keep those gay men coming, Dave is not done yet.
-
that was great, and amazing that they aired it. (see my post in today's Drive 10@10 thread.)
I've also heard the speculation that Tom was Nicole's beard as much as vice-versa. Scott Capurro, the gay comedian, was living in London when Tom & Nicole were there filming Eyes Wide Shut and he SWEARS that Brit actor Cary Elwes
(http://www.npr.org/programs/waitwait/archrndwn/2004/apr/elwes140.jpg)
was Tom's secret boyfriend at the time, a rumor that makes sense because he was also in Days of Thunder (the movie where Tom & Nicole first met) and so I can totally picture Tom hooking up with Cary and the Cruise and Scientology PR folks freaking out and cooking up the Tom/Nicole romance as a cover.

have they mentioned:
(a) the "16 missing days in May" when no one knew where Ms Holmes was? she re-emerged suddenly "in love".
(b) the creepy story about Tom trying to "recruit" Scarlett Johanssen (who politely declined).
and he apparently tried to snare Jennifer Garner too but she was already with Affleck...
-
Oh, yeah. All those points have been covered.
And let's not forget dragging Katie with him to have dinner with Penelope Cruz's parents recently. Or the fact that the Batman Begins filmmakers have excitedly announced that everyone BUT Katie is coming back for a sequel.
Oh, and apparently Tom also interviewed Jessica Alba for the job of his new girlfriend.

Life imitates art!
From this article on Scientology in Hollywood:
Observers say the lesser-known ranks of Hollywood — producers, acting coaches, writers and many an aspiring actor — are filled with Scientologists, attracted by both the spiritual prospects, as well as the networking possibilities.
Dialogue from The Player thirteen years ago:
Larry Levy (Peter Gallagher): I'll be there right after my AA meeting.
Griffin Mill (Tim Robbins): Oh Larry, I didn't realise you had a drinking problem.
Larry Levy: Well I don't really, but that's where all the deals are being made these days.

Yee-HAW! Looks like my lil darlin Charlotte Church is raisin' more Hell!
From the Fri, June 24th 'Daily Dish" (SFGate.com)
POLICE CALLED TO DEFUSE CHURCH ROW
A fight that erupted between Welsh singer Charlotte Church and her ex-boyfriend in the early hours of Thursday morning was only defused when police stepped in.
The singing beauty become embroiled in a shouting match with former love Kyle Johnson outside her Cardiff, Wales, apartment, which was sparked by a run-in at a bar earlier that night.
Church, who is now dating Welsh rugby hunk Gavin Henson, was celebrating a friend's birthday when she became involved in a war of words with Johnson and his pals, so her party moved onto another drinking establishment.
But when she returned home, Johnson was waiting outside to continue their argument -- and Church quickly slammed him for selling their sex secrets to a British newspaper following their split in January.
An onlooker tells the British newspaper the Sun, "She was saying, 'You've had your money -- you slagged me off.' She'd had a bit to drink and was very angry and there was a lot of swearing.
"Things were very heated. There was a bit of pushing and shoving, but no real violence."
Attending officers ordered Church, 19, and 20-year-old Johnson to calm down but made no arrests.
Church punched Johnson following a similar meeting in a Cardiff restaurant in February, shortly after Johnson sold his story to the press.
-
Well, he's obviously a cad -- a girls needs her, er, dignity. Even if she's gotta down a dozen vodkas to do it.
-
Well, he's obviously a cad
I'd go so far as to say he's a dog-haired Toby Jug!
Charlotte's new rugby boyfriend should just stomp that dude's head and be done with it.

Wait... it'll ruin his reputation as the man every woman in the world (and a significant number of men) wants to have sex already?
Shut up, Colin.

Joel Attempted Suicide by Drinking Furniture Polish
Grammy Award-winning singer Billy Joel tried to kill himself by drinking furniture polish, because he was so tormented by an affair with his drummer's wife.
In new book, "Billy Joel: The Life and Times of a Young Man," the rocker reveals keeping his affair with Elizabeth Small secret left him depressed and prepared to take his own life.
The singer/songwriter was saved by the very man he was betraying when bandmate Jon Small rushed him to hospital.
Joel was later transferred to a psychiatric ward.
Small notoriously inspired Joel's 1978 hit "She's Always a Woman," and the pair later married.
I "pledge" not to make fun of Billy Joel for this lame attempted suicide. Hey, at least he didn't wind up "ashes to ashes, Endust to Endust", right?
-
Small notoriously inspired Joel's 1978 hit "She's Always a Woman," and the pair later married
So he was able to turn his experience into (Liquid)Gold?

LOL! Y'know, if this were any other entertainer I'd feel bad. And it's not like I think his music, like, sucks (although 'Uptown Girl" was a dumb song. Let's face it).
There's just something... I dunno... "putzy" about Billy Joel that begs taunting. I mean- c'mon... furniture polish?! Why can't he OD on heroin like other musicians with suicidal tendancies?
I mean- at least dying of, say, auto-erotic asphyxiation, while kinda lame, is at least, y'know, kinky.
Furniture polish?!

Director Lee Tamahori, who made the great film Once Were Warriors as well as Mulholland Falls and the 2002 Bond flick Die Another Day, was arrested over the weekend for dressing up as a woman and offering to perform sex-for-pay to an undercover cop.

Now, granted, his most recent film was the XXX sequel with Ice Cube (which bombed), but jeez.

Funny I was just trying to read that article, but the Chron's servers seem to be a tad overloaded with folks trying to find out what the scoop is on the freeway mess in the EB. The latest word is that it'll be at least 6 weeks before they can even get the steel due to a shortage. So much for fast-tracking this project, eh, Arnie? How about free transit for the next two months til the project is done? (Although it won't matter much to me--my FastPass for May is already bought and paid for.)
How was your commute this am, Mike? More folks on BART than usual? (Or at least more than last week?)

I'm jonesin' for Tim G's "Sopranos" analysis.
Heard him on the Morning Show today, he gave the latest ep a pretty poor review, said it just wasn't up to snuff and seemed rushed, all points to which Irish Greg (who'd brought it up) agreed completely.

Picked this thread for two reasons: Yes, it's gossip, but it's also Beej-related.
I ran into Our Man Beej on the Montgy. Muni platform last eve, so we rode out to the Sunset together. And during our conversation, he dropped the tidbit that he's gettin' hitched! He and the Beej-babe have decided to tie the knot, probably in a year or so. He seemed pretty jazzed about it. So of course I promised to spill the beans to y'all.
On a more immediate level, he was rather consumed with final prep for his current show, which opens Thursday night at the Randall Museum here in SF. I trust y'all got an e-mail about it, but if not and you're interested, I can post details here. Beej is the lead in this one and it's directed by our long-departed pal and 10@10 curmudgeon Rasztrelnikov.

The NY Post's "Page Six" is reporting that Mel Brooks (who is 80) has decided that Cloris Leachman (81) is "too old" to reprise her role as Frau Blucher in the B'way musical version of Young Frankenstein. 8 shows a week, insurance issues, etc. Too bad. Andrea Martin of SCTV fame gets the part.

In re: the Owen Wilson suicide attempt... Us mag is reporting that one of his problems was hanging out with Steve Coogan, the Brit comic actor (24 Hour Party People, Tristam Shandy) who is apparently quite the party animal. Check out this quote from Courtney Love:
"I went through it with Steve. I was just out of rehab, and he was right there with the drugs. I tried to warn Owen. I tried to warn his friends. I hope from the bottom of my heart that Owen stays the hell away from that guy."

Yikes--pancreatic cancer is indeed virulent. I have an old girlfriend whose mom died of it. She was diagnosed around mid-February and she was gone by the end of April. In Swayze's case (and anyone who gets this) I hope they've got it early and are being aggressive about treatment. If not, it's more about making them comfortable.

indeed, quite painful stuff. I dunno if this is getting into "urban myth" territory, but I've always heard that pancreatic cancer is linked to substance abuse (cocaine in particular). I know that the late great NYC radio programmer Frankie Crocker died of it and he was quite the cokehead at one time.

I suppose this could've gone in the Election thread too. John Edwards has admitted to the rumored extramarital affair (the story has been "bubbling under" the MSM radar for months) but denies he's the father of the woman's child. He'll be on Nightline tonite:

Well, god knows McCain/Obama is getting ugly. But this is in another category for me. A "smear" is, generally, something untrue or at least exaggerated. This is something Edwards DID. And he lied about it. Repeatedly. I'm rather angry, actually. Did he think this would not have come out, had he become the nominee? I mean, jeezus! Bill & Monica all over again. WTF was he THINKING???

OK, point taken on the definition of a smear. The whole swift boat mess, for example, four years ago.
But that said, I'm guessing we'll see any number of embarassing/incriminating/revelations made about politicians/aides on both sides of the upcoming election in the next few months. Just hope the Dems are prepared to give as good as they get this time around. This "taking the high road" stuff has not done them any favors in the last couple elections, so if mudslinging becomes a tactic of the right again, they need to dish it right back.
BTW, aren't the party conventions happening a lot later than usual this year? I seem to recall they used to be in July, or early August at the latest. (I recall hearing Mario Cuomo's famous "city on a hill" speech on TV the same night as an incredible Dead show at the Greek in July of '84--I'm sure Geoff knows which one I'm talking about.) This year the Dems meet in late August, and the GOP convention is the first four days of September. I know the nominees are all but sewn up, but still, why so late?

Indeed, I remember as a kid/teen, it was always July or August. '68 is the first one I really paid attention to. 4 years ago the Repugs did Sept because they were in NYC and they wanted a 9/11 tie-in. Guess they decided Sept was their, er, lucky month. ::)

As for the Edwards fuckery, I'm still processing my thoughts on this, but it seems worth noting that (a) infidelity may be stupid, but it's not a crime; it's really a personal matter; and (b) McCain may not want to make too too much of this, lest people start belaboring the fact that he cheated on his first wife and, while she was recovering from a disfiguring accident, dumped her for a much younger heiress.
I'd go off on a tangent about monogamy being overrated anyway, but that's a subject for another day. But I am, like many of you, very disappointed in Edwards for lying about this, and yes, for potentially imperiling his party in the process.
But does this at least mean that Ann Coulter won't call him a "faggot" again?

Ay yi yi yi yi. Geez.... All I can do is shake my head. Definitely not criminal. Stupid? It's what ___% (fill in the percent) of men do. Some women want it for their minutes of fame (paging Monica) and most women affiliated with the men in question seem to put up with it. Life. It sells papers/magazines/gossip rags.

TANC: Just watched this for the second time on DVD on Sunday night, and was wondering if they were still a couple. Great film, one of the best of 2007, imo. I knew there was a bit of an age difference but I didn't know it was that much. Guess they didn't hook up until post-Oscar though--or at least that's their story. So she must not have been even 18 when they shot the film.

I've been reading "Conservatives Without Conscience", written by another self-professed moderate Republican, John Dean (yes, that John Dean). An excellent, almost academic book, and I just finished the page where he also shreds on Ann Coulter, particularly her sloppy fact-checking.
Dean's premise is that the post-Reagan conservatives are in fact authoritarians, and therefore un-democratic and extremely dangerous.

Last nite they replayed the South Park ep from 6 months ago ("Fishsticks") that mercilessly ridiculed Kanye, portraying him as an egotistical jackass (gee... ya think?). And they showed it 4 times, back-to-back-to-back-to-back. Hilarious.

Bill Maher stole the above line and used it last nite.
In other news, Mayor Newsom and his wife welcomed their new baby daughter yesterday. They named her... Montana. (!?!) Somebody *please* tell me that either AL or Rosalie played the Zappa tune on Friday afternoon...

the couple was married at the Siebel family ranch in Montana a few years ago. (Some trolls and ignoramuses on the SFGate comments were saying things like "OMG, he named his daughter after Joe Montana?? are you kidding me?")

my sister-n-law's step daughter has a half sister named Montana. seems to be a sort of a popular name these days, along the lines of Dakota, Dylan, Cory, Cody, Cassidy, Madison, Tyler, Riley, etc.

I admit I don't follow these things too closely, but why does Jay Leno seem to have NBC by the 'nads? Last time I checked, the dude was pretty bad. Not funny, smarmy to the extreme, he used to be a horrible interviewer, just looking for places to drop his one-liners.

I agree, but Middle America loves Leno; that's why he got the Tonight Show instead of Letterman. NBC lost Dave over that and they'll probably lose Conan too.

Conan's statement that appears in the NYTimes was pretty amusing while still taking a firm stand against moving his show. As he should.
http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/01/12/conan-obrien-says-he-wont-do-tonight-show-following-leno/?hp
NBC's trying to recover from what was a bad decision in the first place (giving Leno a primetime show) and make everyone happy, but I don't see that happening. Frankly I think they should give Leno his walking papers, but it'll probably be Conan that takes the fall here. Everyone keeps mentioning Fox, but any chance ABC will muster up a viable offer for Conan? How are Jimmy Kimmel's ratings these days?

Kimmel does OK for ABC (young male demo) and is much cheaper. FOX has the most to gain by wooing Conan with a fat offer. My understanding is if NBC fires Conan they owe him, like, $50M; not clear what he gets if he quits.

FOX would have to be insane not to swoop in immediately and offer Conan the moon & stars. Which reminds me that Letterman will be retiring in a few years, and who are they gonna replace *him* with? Craig Ferguson?

Yikes, if I wasn't already starting to feel a little long in the tooth, that certainly puts me over the edge. Granted he's been at it for, what, about 27 or 28 years now, so he probably is having those thoughts, but I just don't like thinking about it.

Y'know, I'd heard that years ago, but there were so many other theories that one seemed to get lost. In fact, that question came up in an edition of Trivial Pursuit, and the "correct" answer was Mick Jagger, but I got it wrong because I insisted it was David Geffen. Vindication.

By all accounts so far, they just grew apart -- he's on the road constantly with his climate-change stuff, she's got her own things going on. I'm sure Faux News would love it if the story was that all his time in H'wood led him to be "tempted" but they're saying infidelity was NOT involved.

I haerd one commentator say yesterday that supposedly he *does* donate his fees for appearances like this to his AIDS charity, but his people refused to comment when asked about this particular million-dollars.
It would have been a service, then, for them to announce such in advance, I dare saay.
Perhaps he was contractually restrained from revealing such info. That'd be right in character for Rush.
then we ask why would Elton agree to such a thing? we're back to him selling out, which really was never a question in the first place. Everyone has their price.

I just saw Aerosmith leaving Four Seasons Hotel on Market Street. Steve Tyler, Joey Hamilton and the blond guy (Brad Whitford?) came out and got on their short bus, which was parked in front of the hotel in that special parking space reserved for the elderly.
a fangirl told me Joe Perry took an earlier bus, or else I would hve yelled out Alicat's phone number to him (just kidding... I don't really have her phone number).

I think the blond guy is Tom Hamilton, the bassist. Guessing the guy in the suede jacket is Whitford, but I will defer to Alicat's expertise. Don't see Joey Kramer (drummer) in the shot (if you think Tyler is short, you should see Kramer) so maybe he took the previous short bus with Perry.

Hey, our own paparazzi! Aside from Tyler, I can't confirm if the others are Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer and/or Brad Whitford. Check this pic: http://fancore.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/aerosmithkiss.jpg

I got the drummer's last name wrong: That is definitely drummer Joey Kramer in the red leather jacket (far left) but I couldn't tell if the blond guy (far right) was either Brad or Tom.

Rolling Stones Touring for 50th Anniversary...Then Retiring?
The Rolling Stones are hitting a milestone in their long career in 2012 -- their 50th anniversary. To celebrate, the band plans to put together a world tour that will start in 2011 and will run into 2012. MTV UK is also reporting that, once the tour is over, the Stones will finally do what it seemed they never would -- hang up their instruments and call it quits. Then again, the band's rep told EW.com that the rumor is "not true." As for the tour itself, no other information has been released so far other than that concert promoter Live Nation is trying to put it together. Provided by ABC News Radio ©2010

Phil Collins: 'I was cocky and annoying; I'm sorry'
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/dailydish/detail?blogid=7&entry_id=69721
Say what you will about the man, the schlocky pop-crap they made during the 80s, the annoying frontman persona.... he was still the drummer in Genesis and that's pretty cool.
Personally, I never found him to be *that* annoying -- perhaps I subconsciously let him slide a bit b/c I really like the band in the 80s: I went to a Genesis show during their 82 tour and they were just great, and I think that experience filtered all the subsequent music and made it seem not as bad.

Over the weekend my kids found Home Alone 3 (1997) on cable, which has nothing to do in any way with the first two movies (except the lame concept), and is utterly horrible...except that the kid's older sister is played by none other than Scarlett Johansson! So just now I was checking to see where this fell in her career, and she'd've been 12 or 13, and it's the film before her big breakout in The Horse Whisperer. I also just discovered that her birthday is the same as my wife's (!) and she has a brother named Adrian.

in fairness, he never acknowledged being gay or bi but was outed by one of the NY tabloids, a story that Gawker then ran with. He lives in the West Village and was reportedly squiring a hot young male model around town. Whatevs, but I'd never read anything about this supposed "longtime girlfriend" he just wed -- her name was never mentioned in connection with his 2007 divorce, for example.

If you click through to the photo on TMZ reportedly showing her foot on his crotch (neither can actually be seen, but it doesn't seem like there's any other place it could be from that angle), it identifies them as eating at the Cuban restaurant Versailles in L.A. I went there many times 19-20 yrs ago, because in my last year at UCSB my brother Chris was getting his MBA at UCLA & he lived like 4 blocks from there. Place was always packed, and I heard in later years that it became a celeb hangout (at least according to Rolling Stone). I'm guessing it is/will be again.

Mother Of Schwarzenegger Love Child ID'd- (photo): Mildred Patricia Baena, 50, has been identified as the mother of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s love child. Baena, who goes by Patty, was a housekeeper for the Schwarzenegger family for 20 years before retiring in January. The former housekeeper--who lives several hours outside of Los Angeles with Schwarzenegger’s son and her three other children--began to "pursue Arnold" in the late 1990s. She reportedly told friends that she and Schwarzenegger had unprotected sex during the day at his house, though she didn't tell him that he was the father of her child until the boy was a toddler...

Glen Campbell diagnosed with Alzheimer's
(06-22) 14:06 PDT New York (AP) --
Country music legend Glen Campbell has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, and will put out his final album this summer.
Campbell's representative Bobbie Gale made the announcement Wednesday. The disease is in its early stages.
The 76-year-old's wife Kim also talked to People magazine and said they wanted to go public with his illness because they wanted fans to know if he has trouble onstage.
Campbell's CD "Ghost on the Canvas" is scheduled for release Aug. 30. He also is to go on "The Glen Campbell Goodbye Tour."
The Country Music Hall of Famer had pop and country hits with "Gentle on My Mind,""By the Time I Get to Phoenix," and perhaps his most famous song, "Rhinestone Cowboy." He also had his own TV show on CBS.

damn, that was genius. And esp dead-on about how this sort of thing works ("they're ACTORS, people!"). I've heard stories about the couple in question for nearly 15 years, it's really amazing to me how OFTEN this goes on in H'wood and how clueless most people are about it.

I like to call her Jada Dykette-Smith. That's not them in the picture, I don't think, but the spelling of "happyness" was the if-you-don't-get-it-now-you-never-will clue.

I texted a $10 donation to Haiti via the Red Cross. I think they still have millions sitting in a bank account earmarked for Haiti redevelopment. That money cannot be used for any other Red Cross need since it was specifically donated to Haiti, now matter how urgent.

In looking at a recent cover of my wife's People, I realized that I can't stand Kate Middleton's face. In fact, I would rather look at Snooki or any of the Karshadians (including the mom and stepdad) than the Duchess of Cambridge.

Blue Ivy Carter becomes youngest ever on Billboard chart
NEW YORK (AP) — She's not even a week old, but Blue Ivy Carter is already making music history. Billboard says that thanks to her dad, Jay-Z, featuring her on his new song, "Glory," Blue becomes the youngest person to ever appear on its chart. Jay-Z released the song about his first-born child with wife Beyonce on Monday, and it immediately became a viral sensation. The song, which credits B.I.C., features the sound of Blue's cries at the end. The song will enter Billboard's chart next week at No. 74. Blue was born Saturday, and her parents confirmed her birth Monday.
